Sony Jumps Into Online Auction Market
San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment announced this morning that it has launched an official auction site, geared around auctioning items from Sony Online Entertainment Games. The company's new Station Exchange puts an official blessing on selling characters, items, and virtual money for its EverQuest II massive multiplayer game. X1, WebMessenger Deliver X1 Desktop Search for Blackberry
Los Angeles-based firms WebMessenger and Pasadena-based X1 Technologies said today that the firms have partnered on delivering X1's Desktop Search product to RIM BlackBerry mobile users. The Mobile Search Client for X1 allows users to search and retrieve email, attachments, contacts, and file contents from a remote desktop PC running X1 Search via any BlackBerry mobile device. DIRECTV Files Additional Lawsuits
In its ongoing battle against satellite TV pirates, El Segundo-based DIRECTV said yesterday that it has filed suit in Texas against 12 individuals for fraduently activating programming accounts. The suite includes at least 10 former DIRECTV customer service agents, who created false subscription accounts to link access cards and allowed pirates to sell and receive DIRECTV programming without payment. Apani Launches Channel Program, Hires VP
Brea-based Apani Networks is announcing today that it is launching a channel program targeting network security and compliance opportunities. The venture-backed startup is developing VPN clients for non-native IPsec environments, along with IT security compliance solutions. Harris is the former CEo of Intuit and PayPal, and is currently on the board of MacroMedia and Earthlink. Harris served as CEO of Intuit starting in 1993, and CEO of PayPal in 1999 and 2000.
