Roaming Messenger Adds Healthcare Provider
Santa Barbara-based Roaming Messenger said this week that it has added ROAM-IT, a provider of electronic patient care record solutions, as a partner. The two will enter into a business development alliance to use Roaming Messenger's technology in the ROAM-IT solution. Roaming Messenger's technoloyg is used for delivering data over wired and wireless devices. The ROAM-IT solution provides portable access to medical records and patient care reports.

Novatel Ships HSDPA Wireless Modems
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless said today that it has shipped new PCI Express mini card modems for HSDPA 3G wireless broadband networks. The company's new Expedite EU730 and Expedite EU740 PCI Express Mini Cards are usable in High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) networks and are backwards compatible with GPRS and GSM wireless data access networks. Novatel is a developer of broadband wireless access cards for laptops and other portable platforms.

EA Funds USC Video Game Camp Scholarship
Electronic entertainment firm Electronic Arts this week announced that it is funding a scholarship for a female student to the University of Southern California's summer program for video game designers. The camp, organized by USC's Viterbi School of Engineering, teaches students how to design video games. The firm said that its inagural camp last summer for high school students did not have any female students. SkinMedica Files for IPO
San Diego-based SkinMedica has filed for an $86M IPO, underwritten by SG Cowen & Co., Piper Jaffray, Thomas Weisel Partners, and C.E.Unterberg, Towbin. The venture funded company is developing and commercializing prescription pharmaceutical products for skin conditions, as well as non-prescription cosmaceuticals. Homestore's Wolff, Tafeen Charged by SEC
Westlake Village-based Homestore's ex-CEO Stuart Wolff and former executive Peter Tafeen have been charged in civil and criminal charges in the latest chapter of Homestore's 2001 online advertising revenue scandal. The two were named in an indictment by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles. In addition, the SEC said that it has filed a civil lawsuit againt the two for their involvement in the sceme.
