IP3 Names CEO
San Diego-based IP3 Networks has named Stephen Rizzone as CEO. Rizzone has served as CEO of Memlink, Ortel, and Netvantage, and led Ortel's sale to Lucent technologies for $3B. Former CEO Mike Lee is now head of business development and sales for IP3. IP3 Networks is developing gateways for controlling broadband access in public spaces. IR Opens Chinese Customer Service Center
El Segundo-based International Rectifier this morning said that it has opened a new customer service center in Shenzen, China, to support its Chinese customers. The new center, based in the Guangdong international trade zone, will serve IR's semiconductor customers in the power management area. The company manufactures ICs used for a variety of applications, including computers and electronic motor drives for refrigerators, washers and air conditioners.

DTS Moves Into PC Market
Agoura Hills-based Digital Theater Systems (DTS) has launched a new move into the PC audio market. The company said yesterday that it has inked partnerships with C-Media Electronics and Realtek Semiconductor to offer DTS decoding on chip sets for PC motherboards, PCI, and USB soundcards. The technology provides multi-channel and stereo content output to DTS-enabled audio systems via S/PDIF digital audio outputs. Kyocera Wireless Pre-Loads Entertainment Titles
San Diego-based wireless handset maker Kyocera Wireless announced this morning that it is in a relationship to pre-load entertainment titles from Sorrent and Taito on its handsets. Kyocera Wireless, a maker of CDMA-based wireless handsets, said that the BREW and Java-based titles will be available from CDMA wireless service carriers. Kyocera Wireless is the previous Qualcomm CDMA wireless phone business, and was acquired in 2000 by Kyocera International.

ViewSonic Shows IP-based Network Displays
Walnut-based ViewSonic said yesterday that it is showing new digital signage technology with IP-based network displays targeted at the retail space. Unlike traditional video screens, the company's new products can decode video directly over an IP connection. The company said that it is targeting applications such as airports, hotel lobbies, and retail stores who need stand-alone displays for advertising and information display. USGS Launches Real Time Earthquake Prediction Map
The US Geological Survey has rolled out a new, online, real-time earthquake prediction map for California showing the probability of earthquake shaking over the next 24-hours. The new online map shows a clickable map of all of California, and is based on previous earthquake sequences. The system uses seismic information networks combined with known patterns of aftershocks to show the probability of additional shaking in the next 24 hours.
