eMusic Ties Into Sun Records
eMusic, based in San Diego and New York, said yesterday that its subscribers can now download MP3s from Sun Records, the musc label behind Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Charlie Rich and Carl Perkins. The music download service will offer new digital downloads from album material from the Sun Records catalogue. The service will be posting over 400 tracks and singles from the well known artists, in addition to other Sun Records artists. The deal makes rare historic tracks from Sun Rec (More info...)

Gluecode Founder Creates Investment Firm
Winston Damarillo, the founder of Gluecode, has founded Simula Labs, an investment firm which will focus on open source software. According to News.com, Simula has committments from Redpoint Ventures and Mission Ventures to put $10 to $15M in six to eight startups over the next three years. Gluecode was purchased by IBM earlier this month. Simula has created a company called LogicBlaze to commercialize the open source project ActiveMQ.

LeadPoint Launches Lead Marketplace
Per Pettersen, co-founder of Commission Junction, and Marc Diana, a founding member of the LowerMyBills.com team, said today that they have launched a new company focused on the buying and selling of leads in the mortgage and debt market. The company's new marketplace brings buyers and sellers together who bid on the price of leads for financial products. Waitt Retires From Gateway
Ted Waitt, founder of Irvine-based Gateway Computer, has retired from the company's board of directors. Waitt, who founded Gateway twenty years ago. Waitt said he was retiring to focus on a number of business and philanthropic interests. Waitt is involved with his own private investment company, Avalon Capital Group, managing more than a billion dollars; a construction finance company in the Midwest; chairing The Waitt Family Foundation; and three non-profit institutes. Enterprise Partners Buys Muze
San Diego-based Enterprise Partners Venture Capital said yesterday that it has acquired Muze, a New York-based provider of electronic meta-data and related databases for music, books, videos and games. The companies said that the acquisition would allow Muze to more aggressively expand the use of the Muze database for the management and retailing of digital content. Broadcom Sues Qualcomm
Irvine-based Broadcom has sued San Diego-based Qualcomm, in a patent infringement lawsuit over wired and wireless communications and multimedia processing technology. Broadcom is looking to stop Qualcomm from selling both current and next generation cell phone products. Broadcom said that it believes Qualcomm is infringing on 10 Broadcom patents covering Qualcomm's current and next generation cellular baseband and radio frequency.
