SMC Bundles Switches for IP SAN Solution
Irvine-based SMC Networks said this morning that it is in a deal with Nimbus Data Systems to bundle its switches in a storage area networking solution. The company's gigabit and 10-gigabit switches will be part of the new Nimbus turnkey storage area network solution. SMC will include switches ranging from eight ports to 48 ports of connectivity in the bundle. Nimbus is developing IP-based storage area networking solutions targeted at the SMB market.

Conexant Shows VDSL Chips
Newport Beach-based Conexant Systems announced a new family of high speed digital subscriber line chips targeted at broadband communications. The company's Accelity, very high speed digital subscriber line (VDSL and VDSL2) semiconductors are targeted at broadband, remote terminal, and fiber extension applications. SKY MobileMedia Releases Multimedia Platform
San Diego-based SKY MobileMedia announced today that it has shipped a new reference platform based on its wireless application software. The company's SKY-RVP Reference Validation Platform provides a way for developers to develop, prototype, and test multimedia handsets. The reference platform is based on GPRS and integrates SKY's software platform and multimedia processors. Captiva Completes SWT Acquisition
San Diego-based Captiva Software has completed its previously announced agreement to acquire SWT SA, a provider of automatic data extraction solutions in France. Captiva said that the acquisition stengthens its market presence in France and Spain. The deal was worth $17.6M in cash and 179,000 shares of Captiva common stock. Captiva is a deveoper of input management software used to scan paper documents and manage data from Internet forms and data.
