5G Tests Cellular Wi-Fi
Marina Del Rey-based 5G Wireless said yesterday that it has begun testing a new technique to reduce the cost of broadband wireless networks. The company said that it has rolled out a new base station design that extends its campus area wireless network hardware to municipal Wi-Fi hotspots. The new technique adds 802.11b/g capability for up to 4km in 802.11b and 1.5km in 802.11g. The company is targeting large scale wireless deployments who need to cover large WiFi areas at low cost. Broadcom, Motive Partner on Remote Management
Irvine-based Broadcom and Austin-based Motive announced this morning that the two companies have partnered to add remote manageability into Broadcom residential gateway products. The two companies said that they will built solutions based on the DSL Forum TR-069 management protocol to allow management of Broadcom DSL gateways. Networks In Motion Ships Location Based Services Software
Irvine-based Networks In Motion announced this morning that the company's locatio based services software is now available to users of Qualcomm's BREW wireless development environment. Networks In Motions' NavBuilder Extensions for BREW provide location based software services for wireless applications. CallWave, XO Partner on Call Screening
Santa Barbara-based CallWave said this morning that telecommunications, Internet, and web hosting provider XO Communications has partnered with the firm to market CallWave's applications to its hosting customers. XO will advertise and market the CallWave Mobile Call Screening and Mobile Call Transfer services to their customers. Quest Acquires Vintela
Irvine-based Quest Software has acquired Vintela, a Utah-based developer of heterogoenous identity management software for Microsoft Active Directory. Quest said that it expects to pay $56.5M in cash for Vintela and assumption of options. Vintela provides software for extending Microsoft's Active Directory enterprise identity management software to Unix, Linux, Mac, and Java-based systems.
