Vendare Adds Travelocity Founder To Board
Sherman Oaks-based Vendare Media said this week that it has added Terrell B. Jones, founder of Travelocity, to its board of directors. Vendare provides performance-based online media and marketing solutions. Jones was responsible for launching Travelocity from a 20-person department of SABRE Group into the current leading online travel site. Jones is also chair of Kayak and a Special Venture Partner with General Catalyst Partners, along with serving on the board of Earthlink and LaQuinta.

Roaming Messenger Upgrades Software
Santa Barbara-based Roaming Messenger said this week that it has released version 2.0 of its mobile application software. The company's software allows companies to develop applications based on mobile platforms, and is targeted at enterprise applications. The company's newest software adds the ability to retrieve GPS information for mobile devices; executive commands based on the GPS location of users; roaming across different types of devices; and security features.

JamboTECH Unveils Click To Call Tool
Agoura Hills-based JamboTECH, a provider of telecommunications services, said that it has upgraded its communications tools to include "click-to-call" for sales and customer support. The company's services allow users to easily connect to phone numbers via an Internet browser or email package. The service is tied into its conferencing solutions, and is based on IP-telephony. Arkeia Certifies Backup for Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Carlsbad-based Arkeia has certified its backup software with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 for x86 platforms. Arkeia said that its software now supports Red Hat's latest Linux operating system, in addition to existing support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 and 3. The company has certified its software through Red Hat's certification program for interoperability. Arkeia is a provider of Linux-based backup software, and has extensive plug-ins to database packages.

Gemstar-TV Guide, Scientific-Atlanta Settle Patent Lawsuits
Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide and set top box maker Scientific-Atlantic have settled a long running patent lawsuit between the firms. According to the companies, they have signed a technology cross-licensing agreement which resolves all outstanding litigation. The agreements between the companies are long term, worldwide cross licenses to each other's interactive program guide patents. The companies said that Scientific-Atlanta will assist Gemstar-TV Guide to make the Gemstar TV Guide inter (More info...)

Southern California Ranks High On Biotech Report
Ernst & Young has released a study that shows that LA is ranked 7th, and San Diego is ranked 3rd in the biotech industry. The Annual Global Biotechnology Report found that San Diego was third behind New England and the San Francisco Bay Area in concentration of public biotech companies, bringing in $1.9B in revenues in 2004. San Diego has 31 public and 73 private biotech companies, with Los Angeles having 13 public and 63 private biotech firms. Los Angeles had $86.8B in market capitalization (More info...)
