Fulcrum Gets Interconnect Win With Radisys
Calabasas-based Fulcrum Microsystems said this morning that RadiSys has selected its chips for 10 Gbps packet processing interconnects. RadiSys will use Fulcrum's clockless semiconductors in the RadiSys Promentum(TM) ATCA-7010 10 Gbps packet processing module., which is used for security gateways, GPRS-to-Internet gateways, and other high throughput network applications. Fulcrum's clockless semiconducor interconnects provide low power, highly efficient board level interconnects.

ReachLocal, Efficient Frontier Partner on Local Search
Encino-based ReachLocal, a provider of Internet serach for local businesses, and Efficient Frontier said that they have partnered to expand their local search solutions. Efficient Frontier is a provider of search engine marketing solutions. The deal calls for local businesses to get access to Efficient Frontier's Internet marketing services through ReachLocal's network of independent sales agents. Somaxon Raises $65M
San Diego-based Somaxon Pharmaceuticals has raised $65M in funding developing its products for the treament of insomnia and other neuro-pyschiatric disorders. The company said that its Series C was led by MPM Capital Partners, and included new investor Prospect Ventures. Existing investors Domain Associates, BA Venture Partners, Montreux Equity Partners and CDIB BioScience Ventures also particpated. Kurt Wheller and Ilan Zipkin of MPM have joined the board.

Semifinalists Announced For Robotic Race
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has announced the semifinalists for the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge, the race that is offering a $2M prize to a successful developer of a robotic, self-navigating vehicle. The agency selected 40 semifinalists for the qualification event, which will be held in October at the California Speedway in Fontana. The 40 semifinalists were picked from a pool of 118 entrants. E.W. Scripps Buys Shopzilla for $525M
E.W. Scripps Company has purchased Santa Monica-based Shopzilla, a comparison shopping site, for $525M in cash. E.W. Scripps said that it purchased Shopzilla to capitalize on the rapid growth and rising profitability of specialized Internet search businesses. Shopzilla, formerly Bizrate, provides a comparison shopping service on the Internet that allows consumers to search for products, compare prices, and read reviews of products.
