QAD Partners With Indian Outsourcing Firm
Carpinteria-based QAD and Indian outsourcing firm Tata Consultancy Services said this morning that the two companies have entered into a strategic partnership to push QAD's manufacturing solutions. The two companies are already working together to design and implement solutions at customers based on QAD's software. IFILM, blinkx Partner For On-Demand Video
Los Angeles-based IFILM has partnered with blinkx, a video search engine firm to search rich media content available at IFILM. The two companies said that blinkx will include all of IFILM's movie, short film, TV chip, video game trailers, music videos, and other content in the blinkx search engine. Broadcom Shows HDTV Over DSL
Irvine-based Broadcom said yesterday that it has demonstrated the first live HDTV over DSL broadcast. The company's IPTV set top box showed a live HDTV broadcast of the French Open Tennis Tournament the beginning of this month, in a demonstration showing the ability to broadcast high resolution HDTV broadcast and on-demand over existing DSL networks. UCSB, Burnham, Scripps Get $13M For Nanotechnology
The University of California, Santa Barbara, and La Jolla-based The Burnham Institute and Scripps Research Institute, said Monday that the research institutions have received $13M to develop new designs using nanotechnology to detect, monitor, and eliminate plaque, the probably cause of death from sudden cardiac arrest. Seagull Software Acquires Oak Grove Systems
Calabasas-based Oak Grove Systems, a maker of business process management (BPM) software, has been acquired by Atlanta-based Seagull Software (SEAGULL). Seagull will add Oak Grove's BPM technology to its LegaSuite platform of software solutions. Oak Grove is a privately funded spinoff of the NASA JPL Laboratories. Moseley Buys Bankrupt Proxim
Wireless networking equipment maker Proxim (PROX) has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and has been sold. The company is selling most of its assets to Santa Barbara-based Moseley Associates, a telecommunications equipment maker. The deal is worth $21M. Proxim will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Moseley, which has acquired a number of communications firms in recent years.
