Mavent Promotes Executive
Irvine-based Mavent has promoted Ryder Smith from VP Government Relations to Senior Vice President of Operations. The provider of automated compliance solutions for the financial services industry said that Smith will oversee deployment of product systems, quality assurance, and database maintenance. Mavent is backed by Financial Technology Ventures.

Smith Micro Adds CFO
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro Software announced this week that it has added Andrew C. Schmidt as its new CFO. Schmidt replaces Robert Scheussler, who will remain as a consultant as the company with its Sarbanes-Oxley effort. Schmidt joins from Genius Products. Smith Micro is a developer of wireless communications and utility software products for the personal computing and business market.

Linspire Gets Windows Gaming Technology
San Diego-based Linspire and Tornoto-based TransGaming said this week that the companies have released new technology that allows gamers to play Microsoft Windows games on Desktop Linux. TransGaming's Cedega for the Linspire desktop Linux operating system allows users to run popular Microsoft Windows-based games on the desktop Linux distribution. The TransGaming service requires a subscription. TransGaming's technology provides APIs and dynamic linking of Windows code to Linux equivalents.

Preventsys, Rapid7 Partner
Carlsbad-based security software provider Preventsys said this week that it has entered into a technology partnership with Rapid7, a vulnerability assessment and risk management software provider. Rapid7 is the maker of the NeXpose vulnerability management tool. The Preventsys software will retrieve vulnerability scan results from the Rapid7 tool to correlate with other network information. RightsLine Signs Entertainment Firm
Los Angeles-based RightsLine said this week that it has signed 4Kids Entertainment as a customer of its enterprise rights management solution. 4Kids, a provider of children's entertainment and merchandise licensing, said that it was migrating off an older contract licensing system. RightsLine's solution will be used to manage the 4Kids licensing business, including contracts, workflow, product approvals, and royalties.
