Apriso Names New CEO
Long Beach-based Apriso has appointed Jim Henderson as President and CEO. Henderson was most recently CEO of GERS, and has also served at Simione Central, IBM, and National Data Corporation. Apriso provides management software for monitoring supply, production, and distribution, and is backed by CMEA Ventures, Brentwood Venture Capital, LogiSpring, SAP Ventures, and Wall Street Technology Partners.

Viaspace Adds Gulati As Board Director
Pasadena-based Viaspace said this week that it has added Dr. Sandeep Gulati to its board of directors. Dr. Sandeep Gulati was the former Head of the Ultracomputing Technologies Group at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena. Viaspace is a spinoff of JPL focused on commercializing space and defense technologies.

PeopleSupport Adds To Board
Los Angeles-based PeopleSupport has named Joe Alan Rose to its board of directors. The provider of outsourced customer management and accounts receivable management said that Rose was most recently Chief Operating Officer of SOURCECORP, and has also served at FormMaker Software. Rose also sits on the board of Captiva Software. PeopleSupport maintains a customer service center based in the Phillipines to provide offshore outsourcing for its customers.

IP3 Inks Deal With Starwood
San Diego-based IP3 Networks recently announced that the company has inked a deal with Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Starwood is tapping the company's access control solutions for adding wired and wireless high speed Internet Access at its properties. IP3's solutions are used to provide security, access control, and billing to service providers and the hospitality industry. IP3 is funded by Sequoia Capital and Garage Technology Ventures.

SMC Taps Intel for 10Gigabit Transceivers
Irvine-based SMC Networks announced yesterday that it has added support for Intel's high performance 10 Gigabit optical transceivers in its TigerSwitch and TigerStack managed switches. SMC will tap the new Intel optical transceivers for distances ranging from 300 meters to 40 kilometers. SMC is a manufacturer of Ethernet switching hardware.

Preventsys Bolsters Professional Services
Carlsbad-based Preventsys has bolstered its partners this week by adding a new consulting partner. Preventsys said that it is adding Special Ops Security as a strategic consulting partner to add professional services and deployment of Preventsys systems. Orange County-based Special Ops Security provides consulting, training, and technology in the information security area. Preventsys is a developer of enterprise security management systems that integrate with security assessment tools.

Occam Deploys Video On Demand
Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks announced this week that it has deployed its solutions in combinations with Windows Media Video 9 in an IPTV access network. The company, along with Infogate Online, said that the two companies have deployed Windows Media Video 9 at the Virginia-based Citizens Telephone Cooperative for video on demand. The system uses Occam hardware and Infogate software to deliver video on demand to set top boxes, across DSL.

Virgin.net Taps SageMetrics
North Hollywood-based SageMetrics has landed a deal with Virgin.net, the ISP that is a joint venture between the Virgin Group and ntl. According to SageMetrics, Virgin will tap SageMetrics' behavior targeting and web analytics software for use in targeting advertising. Virgin has been using SageAMP, SageMetrics' behavioral targeting solution to better target advertising for its users. RIAA Targets 784 In File Sharing Suits
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has embarked on another round of lawsuits against illegal file sharers. The organization has filed another round of lawsuits against 784 individuals it says have been using illegal peer-to-peer file swapping networks to trade copyrighted music. The RIAA said that it is targeting users of the KaZaa, LimeWire and Grokster peer to peer file swapping services across the country.
