Broadcom Buys Siliquent
Irvine-based Broadcom has acquired Siliquent Technologies, a developer of Gigabit Ethernet network interface controllers, for $76M. Broadcom said that it would buy the startup, based in Mountain View and Tel Aviv, in an all cash deal. Siliquent develops Ethernet controllers that provide better performance and include a low cost 10 gigabit capability. Broadcom said that the acquisition will accelerate its delivery of 10GbE converged-NICs (C-NICs) for server LAN-on-motherboard (LOM) applications.

Peregrine Semiconductor Appoints Exec
San Diego-based Peregrine Semiconductor announced this week that it has added Brian Hurst as VP Worldwide Sales. Hurst has served at Cyrix, Transmeta, National Semiconductor, and Intel. He was most recently VP Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Anadigics. Peregrine Semiconductor developes mixed-signal process technology for RF CMOS components.

Userplane Deploys Tools
Los Angeles-based flash-based community tools provider Userplane said this morning that Mooble and Click2Asia, two community sites, have deployed its web messaging and chat features to their members. Click2Asia is an Asian online dating service. Mooble is a social networking community for mobile phone users. Userplane supports streaming audio and video chat, in addition to text chat features.

Sendia Enhances Salesforce Automation Tool
Santa Monica-based Sendia has upgraded its Wireless Salesforce Automation tool for Salesforce.com. The company's software provides a way for customers of the popular customer relationship management service to access their data via wireless connections. The upgraded version provides a "QuickStart" feature that provides pre-configured filters for administrators, easing user deployment. The company also said that it has improved the software's ability to create ane edit profiles.

Preventsys Signs Customer
Carlsbad-based Preventsys has landed mortgage funding firm Countrywide Financial as a customer of its security management tools. Preventsys said that Countrywide has selected its enterprise security management system for enterprise-wide security. The firm also said that Countrywide plans to use the system for demonstrating IT compliance with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and Sarbanes-Oxley. DivX Lands Brazilian Manufacturer
San Diego-based DivX announced this morning that it has landed a Brazilian DVD player manufacturer for its video compression format. CCE Group will begin shipping a DivX capable device to the Brazilian market in August. CCE will be the first Brazilian manufacturer to offer DivX capability. DivX provides a video/decompression format that provides higher compression than existing compression standards, and has been signing up partners to deliver its video compression format to market.

TherOx Raises $30M
Irvine-based TherOx has raised $30M in venture funding for its treatment of heart attack (Acute Myocardial Infarction). The funding was led by New Science Ventures, and included new investors Aperture Venture Partners and Wasatch Advisors. Existing investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers and Integral Capital Partners also particpated. The company said that the funding would be used to submit for pre-market approval for its therapy.
