Coradiant Names CEO
San Diego-based Coradiant announced this morning that it has named a new CEO. Brett Helm has joined the firm as CEO. Helm was previously president and CEO of IPivot, and was general manager of Intel's Network Equipment Division. He's also served as CEO of AirFiber and VP and GM of @Work. Existing CEO Mike Chuli continues on as President and Chief Operating Officer. Coradiant develops monitoring equipment for data center applications.

Adapt Technologies Raises $9.8M
Businessweek is reporting this week that Pasadena-based MarketFinder has raised $9.8M in venture funding. The funding came from Mohr Davidow Ventures, Emergence Capital Partners, and Concept2company. The firm develops software that automates the placement and management of keyword-based, CPC ads in the paid search space. The firm is headed by Alex Backer, a visiting scientist at the California Institute of Technology.

ARTISTdirect Buys MediaDefender
Los Angeles-based ARTISTdirect said this morning that it is acquiring Marina Del Rey-based MediaDefender, a developer of internet piracy prevention technology, for $42.5M in cash. MediaDefender develops software for detecting illegal file trading and downloading of copyrighted music, and is used by music and entertainment companies to battle illegal music swapping and downloads. Last year, ValueClick purchased PriceRunner AB, a leading comparison shopping service in Europe of approximately $29M. Last week, the ValueClick launched the U.S. version of the service, looking to gain the same level of success the PriceRunner site has had in Europe here.
