CNET Acquires Santa Monica Entertainment Review Site
CNET Networks announced yesterday that it has acquired Santa Monica-based Metacritic, a provider and aggregator of reviews on entertainment, films, video, music, games and books. Terms were not disclosed. Metacritic provides access to reviews across different types of entertainment, organizing and scoring opinions on releases of entertainment titles. Intercasting Raises $5.5M
San Diego-based Intercasting Corporationg has raised $5.5M in Series A venture funding. Funding came from Avalong Ventures and Masthead Venture Partners. Intercasting is developing location-based services, and will use the capital to fund business growth, product development, and marketing. The company's initial mobile service is Rabble, a blogging/social networking application that connects users using mobile phones. Kintera To Restate Results, Postpones Results
San Diego-based Kintera said yesterday that it is delaying the release of its financial results for Q2 due to a pending restatement of results. The company said that it would be restating its first quarter 2005 results, and would be amending its 10-Q from last quarter. Kintera said that its restatement is due to the reclassification of certain capitalized software development cost, and will result in an increase in net loss and net loss per share for the first quarter. Blogs Reach 50 Million Americans
comScore Networks released the results of study this week showing that 50 million Americans visited blog sites during the first quarter of 2005. The study, which analyzed the composition and activities of weblog audiences, found that 20 percent of the Internet population here in the United States, had visited a blog in Q2 of this year. Overland Acquires Zetta Systems
San Diego-based Overland Storage has acquired Zetta Systems, a developer of real time data protection software, in a deal worth $9.0M in cash. The purchase moves overland from being a tape backup provider into the data storage software market. Xirrus Optimized Voice Over Wi-Fi Support
Westlake Village-based Xirrus announced this morning that it is adding Voice-over-Wi-Fi enhancements to its wireless LAN arrays. Xirrus said that it has added support for SpectraLink Voice Priority mechanisms, fine grained control over traffic classification, and prioritization of voice and data in Wi-Fi networks.
