Qualcomm Expands Power Management
San Diego-based Qualcomm has expanded its line of integrated circuits for the cell phone market. The company said today that it has rolled out three new power management ICs for mobile handsets. The company's new power management circuits integrate with existing Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets, used for CDMA connectivity by manufacturers.

StoneFly Goes Entry Level
San Diego-based StoneFly Networks yesterday rolled out a new, entry level targeted version of its IP SAN storage. The company said that its ValueSAN solution provides a low cost, storage networking device. The company's iSCSI based hardware supports up to 19.2TB of storage, local and campus synchronous mirroring, and snapshot capabilities. The company said that its new offering will start at less than $10,000.

Gemstar Grants Patent License To Pioneer
Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide said this morning that it has granted a patent license to Pioneer Corp for interactive programming guides in the European market. Pioneer will now have ability to use Gemstar-TV Guide IP in the European market. Gemstar holds a number of patents in the interactive programming guide/set top box market, and aggressively licenses those patents to various set top box and television manufacturers. NextWeb Acquires Orange County Fixed Wireless Firm
NextWeb, a provider of fixed wireless Internet services, said today that it has acquired 1st Universe, a fixed-wireless service provider in Orange County. Terms were not disclosed. 1st Universe and NextWeb both provide fixed-wireless broadband connections, used by companies who want high speed connections. Fixed wireless competes with DSL or T1 connections. The companies target corporate accounts with pre-WiMAX networking equipment.

QLogic Sells Disk Drive Business
Aliso Viejo-based Qlogic is selling its hard disk drive controller and tape drive controller business, in a $225M deal. Qlogic, a provider of Fibre Channel host bus adapters and switches, said that Marvell Technology Group will acquire the company's hard drive and tape drive controller business for $180M in cash and $45M in Marvell common stock.
