Websense Loses President
San Diego-based Websense said yesterday that its has lost its president, Curtis H. Staker. The firm said that Staker resigned, effective immediately, to become CEO of North Carolina-based GFI Software. CEO and Chairman John Carrington will resume the role of president. The company said in a statement that it was confirming its earning expectations as it had previously announced in July.

Verimatrix Rolls Out Digital Watermarking
San Diego-based startup Verimatrix has rolled out new digital watermarking technology this week, with a new components for its digital watermarking system. The company's Verimatrix Content Authority System (VAS) now provides electronic fingerprinting of video content on set-top boxes, encoding a digital watermark as it is played on a set-top box. Semtech Adds Mini Battery Charger Components
Camarillo-based semiconductor supplier Semtech Corp. said this week that it has debuted a new line of miniature battery chargers for the consumer electronics market. The company's new SC805 and SC806 ultra-small battery charger devices are targeted at the portable electronic, personal media devices, and mobile phone market. DivX Signs Manufacturers
San Diego-based DivX released a slew of announcements this morning around recent design wins for the company's highly compressible video format. The company is showing its technology in solutions from Meedio, TransTechnology, DK digital, and Panasonic Germany. InsiderPages Raises Venture Round
Pasadena-based InsiderPages has raised a venture capital round, according to a report from PE Wire. PE Wire reported that it discovered in a regulatory filing with the SEC that InsiderPages had raised $8.5M in a Series B funding. socalTECH.com confirmed the unannounced venture round with Stuart MacFarlane, CEO of InsiderPages. Linspire, Hit By Naming Confusion, Gives Away Software
San Diego-based Linspire is in the midst of a free giveaway of its desktop Linux software, after the software developer was hit by naming confusion in the Linux community. Study: Katrina Halts Online Connectivity, Spurs Donations
comScore Networks, a data analysis firm tracking web site activity, reported yesterday that in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, there was a virtual halt to online connectivity in cities hit by the storm. comScore said that its studies found that on the average weekday in the week preceding the storm, approximately 700,000 people used the Internet in New Orleans.
