Preventsys Adds Eubanks To Board
Carlsbad-based Preventsys said this morning that it has added former Symantec head Gordon Eubanks as chairman of the board. Eubanks was president and CEO of Symantec for fifteen years, and most recently was CEO and President of Oblix, an enterprise identity management developer that was acquired by Oracle in March. Preventsys develops security risk management and automated compliance tools for the security software space.

Vitesse Upgrades Enclosure Management IC
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor has enhanced its low-cost embedded enclosure management IC, the VSC410. The company said that its enhanced enclosure management device can be used for monitoring hard drives, power, fans, intrusion, and temperature of hardware devices. The new controller includes a software development kit. The IC is used by manufacturers of servers and embedded systems, who incorporate the technology into their systems to provide information about status of hardware.

Sonos Goes Retail With Tweeter
Santa Barbara-based digital music system developer Sonos inked an agreement last week with Tweeter Home Entertainment Group, a retailer of consumer electronics, to carry the Sonos Digital Music System at its retail locations. Tweeter will feature the Sonos system at each of its retail locations. Sonos is marketing a digital music system that wirelessly transmits digital music throughout the home. Sequoia Communications SHips Single Chip RF Transceiver
San Diego-based Sequoia Communications announced this morning that it has shipped a single-chip, multi-mode RF transceiver. The company's new chip provides WCDMA, HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS, and GSM functionality. The company is looking to lower the cost and increase the battery life of 3G phones, by highly integrating RF functionality. Akimbo Goes Into Download To Own
Santa Monica-based Akimbo Systems has rolled out an Internet-based, video-on-demand software focused on television. The firm said today that it is rolling out a service that allows customers to download videos via Akimbo to own, an expansion of its rental services. Akimbo licenses television programs and provides them to subscribers via broadband. The company said that the videos can be stored within Akimbo's player and Windows Media Center, and that it will offer an option to burn titles to DVD (More info...)
