AOL Buys Weblogs
America Online announced yesterday that it is acquiring Los Angeles-based Weblogs, Inc., a company that provides blogging content and blogs. Weblogs runs 85 blogging sites covering electronics, automobiles, films, travel, and other topics. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. AOL will incorporate the Weblogs site into AOL's network of web sites, and said that Weblogs would become a wholly owned subsidiary with independent editorial control. Weblogs was founded by Jason McCabe Calacanis.

JAMDAT, ATI Team On Wireless Entertainment
Los Angeles-based JAMDAT Mobile said early this week that it is working with graphics card vendor ATI Technologies to develop 3D wireless entertainment applications. The two firms said they would work together to develop new titles in the wireless space. Terms were not disclosed. JAMDAT currently offers a number of 3D titles for wireless platforms.

Mavent Lands Fannie Mae
Irvine-based software provider Mavent said this week that Fannie Mae will us its automated compliance solutions. Mavent develops software expert systems for reviewing mortgage loans for compliance with federal and state lending laws, and conformance to Fannie Mae's rules. Fannie Mae will use the company's software in its load reviews. Mavent is backed by FTVentures.

Jaalaa Teams With Mitsumi
San Diego-based Jaalaa, a RF system on a chip developer, said yesterday that Mitsumi Electric Co. will use Jaalaa's system-on-chip for its new wireless networking system. Mitsui will tap the Jaalaa KillerBee XR System to provide connectivity to wireless electronic shelf label (wESL) applications. The equipment is being targeted for monitoring shelf tags for grocery retailers, asset tracking, and remote control. Jaalaa is backed by venture capital firm ComVentures.

Jazz Rolls Out 0.13 Micron Process
Newport Beach-based Jazz Semiconductor said this week that it has rolled out a 0.13 micron process for RF CMOS semiconductors. The company's new process provides low cost, analog system on a chip integration. The company said that its new 0.13 micron process platform is an alternative for applications that do not require expensive copper interconnect on 0.13 micron CMOS. SpaceShipOne Flies Into The Smithsonian
The first private vehicle to make it to space, SpaceShipOne, has been donated to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. SpaceShipOne, designed by aviation designer Burt Rutan and financed by Microsoft's Paul Allen, went to space twice last year and captured the $10M Ansari X Prize for private space exploration.
