FarStone Inks Asian Deals
Irvine-based backup software provider FarStone said today that it has inked an agreement with providers in China and Taiwan for its personal disaster recovery software. It said it has signed agreements with China Telecom Ltd. and HiNet Internet Services (Taiwan) to provide its personal disaster recovery services to over 8 million Internet subscribers. Farstone's RestoreIT xSP solution allows users to back up and restore data and files.

J.D. Power Taps Into Support Group For Certification
Westlake Village-based J.D. Power and Associates has teamed up with a San Diego-based organization to certify companies for technology service and support. The Service & Support Professionals Association (SSPA) and J.D. Power have rolled out an award for technology companies that meet or exceed its standard for technology service and support. Linksys, Skype Partner On Cordless Handset
Cisco's Irvine-based Linksys division and populuar voice-over-IP firm Skype said yesterday that the two companies are marketing a new cordless phone to provide connectivity to the Skype service without sitting in front of a computer. A new Internet Telephony Kit will allow users to make free Skype calls without sitting at a computer, and will be available at online and at retailers. Ophthonix Closes Series C Funding Round
San Diego-based medical developer Ophthonix has raised $17M in a Series C funding round for the firm. Funding was led by InterWest Partners, and included participation by Enterprise Partners Venture Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Gund Investment Corporation, Trex Enterprises, and Wasatch Advisors. Ophthonix is developing high definition vision correction lenses. LogicalApps Raises $14M
Irvine-based LogicalApps has received $14M in Series A venture funding, the company announced yesterday. The developer of business automation software said that it raised the round from Sequoia Capital and Mission Ventures, and will use the funding to expand its sales, marketing and support operations.
