CEYX Teams With Vitesse
San Diego-based CEYX Technologies and Camarillo-based Vitesse have joined forces with new technology for laser ICs. The two companies said that Vitesse will use CEYX's laser bias and control technology for Vitesse optical transceivers, a move that is expected to increase laser accuracy, increase laser life, and lower costs. The CEYX technology is expected to lower production costs and increase yields on laser transceivers. The two companies are showing a demonstration platform running at 10Gbps (More info...)

FarStone Rolls Out Upgraded Backup Software
Irvine-based FarStone Technology said this week that it has released an updated version of its RestoreIT Pro and RestoreIT backup software. The company said that version 7.0 of the software adds the ability to backup and restore an entire system on a network drive or USB drives, in addition to a hard drive or CD/DVD. The software has also added better preview tools to view the directory structure of backups.

ARC Investment Partners Taps Dynafund Principal
Beverly Hills-based ARC Investment Partners has added Richard Gammill of Dynafund Ventures for its new alternative merger firm. The company said that Gammill will head up its Transaction Execution arm. Gammill was a principal at Dynafund Ventures, where he focused on early and mid-stage investments in high tech companies. ARC Investment Partners is looking to use reverse mergers to provide liquidity to venture-backed companies unable to IPO or find an acquirer.

RF Magic Names CFO
San Diego-based RF Magic has named a new CFO. The company said that it has appointed David Lyle as CFO of the company. Lyle was most recently at Broadcom, and prior to Broadcom was CFO at Zyray Wireless, a WCDMA baseband co-processor startup in San Diego acquired by Broadcom. RF Magic is a developer of radio frequency (RF) integrated circuits, targeted at broadband consumer applications. Lyle has also served at Mobilian Corporation and Intel Capital.

CrystalVoice Lands United Online
Santa Barbara-based CrystalVoice said yesterday that Woodland Hills-based United Online has licensed the company's voice over internet solution. CrystalVoice's voice communications software is powering NetZero's new NetZero Voice voice over IP Internet phone service. NetZero's Voice service is the ISP's answer to the immensely popular Skype service, and other offers from Vonage, Google, and others who are eager to gain revenue from internet-based phone calls.

eCOST Merges With Logistics Provider
Torrance-based online retailer eCOST.com said Thursday that it has reached an agreement to merge with PFSweb, a warehousing and logistics provider. eCOST.com will become a wholly owned subsidiary of PFSweb. The companies report that 2005 twelve month trailing revenue of the combined firm would total $528M. PFSweb is a warehousing and logistics company that manages merchandise and distribution facilities. eCOST provides new, closeout, and refurbished computer products through its online web site (More info...)

Planetwide Games Targets Reverse Merger
Irvine-based Planetwide Games said Thursday that it has agreed to merge with SP Holdings Corp, a shell company listed on the over the counter bulletin board. The developer of online video games and software said it will enter into a merger with the holding company and continue the current business. Planetwide said that the public listing will increase its visibility with partners and better position the firm to fund its growth.

EMCORE Acquires Phasebridge
Pasadena-based Phasebridge has been acquired by EMCORE, a provider of semiconductor components, according to the companies. Terms were not disclosed. Phasebridge has been developing multi-chip optical modules and subsystems used in the defense and optical networking markets. EMCORE said that Phasebridge operations will be integrated into the Ortel divison of EMCORE in Alhambra, and is expected to increase revenues in fiscal 2006 by approximately $2M.
