JAMDAT Launches Lord of the Rings Title
Los Angeles-based JAMDAT Mobile released a new title this week based on the Lord of the Rings. The company said that The Lord of the Rings: Legends in Europe is available in English, Spanish, German, French and Italian on mobile operators in France, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The entertainment title is based on the New Line Cinema movies.

BAE Systems Shuts Down Westlake Offices
Defense contractor BAE Systems said last week that it is eliminating more than 75 positions at its Westlake Village location due to a corporate-wide restructuring. The company, which provides gyroscopes and other aviation instrumentation, said that it is laying off 192 people during the first of next year in its plants in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Westlake Village. The layoffs are a result of a drop in demand for the company's aircraft and missle guidance products.

DIRECTV Opens Call Center In US
El Segundo-based satellite television provider DIRECTV announced yesterday that it is opening a new call center. The company said that the call center will be its fourth, and will employ up to 800 people. Bucking the trend of locating call centers in either India or the Phillipines, DIRECTV is locating the center in Missoula, Montana, which the company said it located after a nationwide search. eEye Uncovers iTunes Vulnerability
Aliso Viejo-based security firm eEye Digital Security has uncovered a flaw in Apple's popular iTunes digital music software and Apple's QuickTime media player, according to the company. Microsoft Windows-based versions of the iTunes software and QuickTime media player contain a remotely exploitable flaw that allows arbitrary code to be executed by a user. AMCC Moves Headquarters To Sunnyvale
San Diego-based Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) said yesterday that it has moved its corporate headquarters from San Diego to Silicon Valley. The company said that its headquarters has moved to its existing Sunnyvale offices, and which will become it's principal executive office. CEO Kambiz Hooshmand said in a statement that the move was a result of the addition of several Silicon Valley executives to the management team.
