Arkeia Names CEO
Carlsbad-based backup softare provider Arkeia said yesterday that it has appointed a new CEO. Alain Pechon has joined the firm as CEO, having previusly served as CEO of Calendra Softare. Pechon also has served at Sun Microsystems, Amdahl, and EMC. Former CEO Phil Roussel remains on the company's board of directors. Arkeia provides Linux-based enterprise backup and restore software for the storage market.

Power-One Expands Patent Lawsuits
Camarillo-based Power-One has expanded its patent suit against competitor Artesyn Technologies, the company said yesterday. Power-One said that it has added two additional patent applications to the list of patents it says that Artesyn has violated. The company also said that it has sued Silicon Laboratories for violation of the same patents. Network LIVE, DIRECTV Sign Live Music Agreement
Los Angeles-based Network LIVE, the America Online, XM Satellite Radio, and AEG joint venture, said yesterday that it has signed an agreement with El Segundo-based DIRECTV to provide live music and entertainment programming. Network LIVE will provide live entertainment programming to the satellite television operator, with an official launch in March of 2006. Eidogen-Sertanty Signs Deal with AstraZeneca
San Diego-based Eidogen-Sertanty said this week that it has signed a deal with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals to provide access to its informatics software. AstraZeneca Boston will use Eidogen-Sertanty's software to assist in drug discovery efforts in the area of cancer and anti-infective therapeutic programs. Activision Casts Gloom On Gaming Industry
Santa Monica-base Activision cast a pall over the video game industry yesterday, after its announced late Wednesday that it is was cutting its estimates. Activision said that it expected that its earnings would be significantly lower that earlier estimates, saying that videogame hardware and software markets are weaker than expected. Microsoft Files Suit Against Software Pirates
Microsoft has filed suit against eight of its partners yesterday for violation of its software licenses, and for distributing and selling software intended for production evaluation and internal use. The software company said that it had filed suit against nine individuals, including three Southern Californians, for violating its software agreements.
