ViewSonic Bundles Guild Wars
Walnut-based ViewSonic, a provider of monitors, LCD screens, and other display products, said this week that it has signed an agreement to bundle the popular Guild Wars multiplayer online game with its entertainment focused monitors. ViewSonic will provide a free trial version of the Guild Wars game from NCsoft with all purchases of its monitors focused on the computer game market. Entropic Promotes Noyes to VP Finance
San Diego-based Entropic Communications said today that it has appointed Kurt Noyes as VP of Finance and Administration. Noyes was most recently Director of Finance for the firm. SMC Ships Wireless USB Print Server
Irvine-based SMC Networks has released a new, 802.11g wireless print server. The firm said that its new EZ Connect 802.11g print server provides USB 2.0 network printing targeted at consumers, home offices, classrooms, or other businesses. The new device allows USB printers to be accessed via a wireless LAN or across the Internet. TI Buys Chipcon
Texas Instruments said today that it is acquiring Oslo-based Chipcon, a provider of RF transceivers and systems on a chip, including its software design center in San Diego. TI said it has agreed to pay approximately $200M for the firm. The company said that it will use the acquisition to broaden its RF solutions and ZigBee products. DOJ Charges Xbox Hackers
The Department of Justice said this week that it has charged three Los Angeles area individuals for selling modified Microsoft Xbox 360 machines that allowed for the playing of pirated video games. The US Attorney in Los Angeles said that two store owners and a third man were charged in a federal copyright infringement case for selling modified Xbox game consoles.
