JMAR Raises $3M
San Diego-based JMAR Technologies has raised $3M in a private placement. The firm said that it raised the funding from twelve accredited investors, with Midtown Partners & Co. acting as the placement agent. JMAR said that it would use the funding for investment in its product development activities. JMAR develops laser modules for X-ray generation and spectrochemical analysis.

8e6 Names Board Member
Orange-based 8e6 Technologies last week said that it named Mahendra Vora to the company's board of directors. Vora is founder and executive chairman of Intelliseek, and has also served at Unisys and SecureIT. Intelliseek is a provider of software for monitoring blogs, newsgroups, and message forums for information on companies. 8e6 is a provider of security appliances targeted at Internet filtering and reporting for small businesses.

Rent.com Targets College Market
Santa Monica-based Rent.com is targeting college students with a new promotion, offering $100 to students who use the site to find an off-campus aprtment. The service said that it has added a new search-by-university feature which allows users to search for available rooms by specifying a university to search around. The new feature locates apartments adjacent to colleges and universities listed in Rent.com's database. Rent.com was acquired by eBay in 2004.

Fandango Adds Exhibitors, Names CIO
Los Angeles-based Fandango said last week that it has added five new exhibitors to its list of customers, and named a new CIO. Fandango has added Wallace Tehaters, Wehrenberg Theatres, America Cinematheque, Colorado Cinemas, and Cobb Theaters to its list of customers for its online, phone, and mobile movie ticketing service. The firm also said that it named Rick Butler as Chief Information Officer for the company. Butler was most recently VP of Operations for Fandango.

Pioneer Rolls Out Blu-Ray For PCs
Pioneer's Long Beach-based US headquarters said late last week that it is rolling out Blu-ray Disc computer drives, the first Blu-ray compatible PC drives on the market. The company's new Blu-ray compatible drives will be targeted at professional users, and will support creation and recording of digital data to the new Blu-ray Disc standard. Pioneer's is the first foray of a next generation DVD standard into the PC arena, and comes as rival HD-DVD and Blu-ray have continued to fight over who wil (More info...)
