Zetera, Marvell Collaborate On IP Storage
Irvine-based Zetera said yesterday that it is working with silicon provider Marvell to promote reference designs for its IP-based storage networking protocol and device. The compay said that the reference designs feature Zetera's Z-SAN products and Marvell's Orion processors. Zetera is targeting small and medium sized businesses looking to use low cost IP hardware to network their storage. Amp'd Mobile Officially Launches Services
Los Angeles-based MVNO Amp'd Mobile has officially launched its much touted 3G mobile service. The firm, which is developing a wireless carrier focused on the trendy youth market, said that it has launched nationwide service. The company said that its nationwide service will allow for the choice of two EVDO handsets from Kyocera Wireless, which run Amp'd mobile's proprietary user interface for access to broadband content like music, games, and entertainment. Evolution Scores Win For Navigation Technology
Pasadena-based Evolution Robotics has scored a new design win, saying yesterday that Yujin Robotics has selected the company to provide its next generation robotics technologies and components. Yujin will use Evolution's NorthStar product for its household home robot prototype, a project of the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication. Quest Software Makes Email Archiving Buy
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software has acquired an email archiving firm, AfterMail, based in Wellington New Zealand, for approximately $14.7M in cash and up to $30M cash in performance-based earn out over three years. Quest said that it will use the acquisition to expand the number of email platforms supported by its existing email archiving software. Quest said that it will retain AfterMail's New Zealand product development team, and establish a New Zealand sales office.

Eyeonics Raises $16.2M
Aliso Viejo-based Eyeonics has raised a new, Series E round of funding. The company said this week that it has raised $16.2M for the development of its intraocular lens. The funding round was led by Versant Ventures, and included participation by existing investors Brentwood Associates, Pequot Private Equity, ABS Ventures, and Entrepreneurs Fund. Eyeonics lens has been approved by the US FDA since 2003, and the company said that ophthalmic surgeons have implanted more than 35,000 of the devices. (More info...)

Vivendi Universal Buys Game Developer
Los Angeles-based Vivendi Universal Games has acquired another game development firm, this time acquiring Carlsbad-based High Moon Studios. High Moon is the developer of Darkwatch, a first person shooter, and is also developing other titles. Terms were not disclosed. Vivendi Universal said that it will retain all of High Moon's employees, which number more than 100 people in Carlsbad. Vivendi Universal is a publisher and distributor of games for both gaming consoles as well as PC platforms.
