Partovi Joins SKY MobileMedia
SKY MobileMedia, a San Diego-based wireless applications software provider, said this morning that Naser Partovi has joined the company as President and CEO. Partovi was most recently Managing Director at Enterprise Partners Venture Capital. Partovi has also served on the boards of Quorum Systems, WIDCOMM, and Gigabit Optics. The firm did not mention Richard Sfeir, the company's prior CEO, in its announcement.

Language Weaver Adds Reseller
Los Angeles-based Language Weaver, a provider of automated language translation software, has added a new government reseller to its list. Language Weaver has added Carahsoft Technology as a strategic reseller for the firm. Carahsoft is a government focused IT provider that provides GSA schedule products. The reseller will add Language Weaver's products to its GSA schedule and provide sales and marketing of the products. LogicalApps Signs Finisar
Irvine-based LogicalApps has signed Finisar, a fiber optic subsystem and test equipment manufacturer, as a customer of its enterprise business applications. LogialApps announced yesterday that Finsar is using LogicalApps to meet compliance regulations related to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). LogicalApps said that its software will be used by Finasar for its Oracle ERP application to validate year-end performance results for SOX compliance. Xytis Raises $24.5M
Irvine-based Xytis, a new firm formed from the merger of Xytis Ltd. and Remergent, announced yesterday that it has raised $24.5M in Series B funding. Xytis is developing small molecule and allosteric modulator-based biopharmaceuticals for the treament of central nervous system disorders. Funding came from Sanderling Ventures, Atlas Ventures, Ventech, and CDC Enterprises Innovation. Tioga Gets $12M
San Diego-based Tioga Pharmaceuticals has received $12M in Series A Funding from Forward Ventures, New Leaf Venture Partners, and BB Biotech Ventures. Tioga Pharmaceuticals is developing biopharmaceuticals for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, based on asimadoline, a small molecule. According to the company's backers, the financing will be used to fund two Phase II clinical trials for the company's compounds. Tioga acquired the rights to asimadoline from Merck KGaA in Germany.

SOA Software Finds Funding
Santa Monica-based SOA Software has raised $2.5M in an unannounced funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm. In a filing with the SEC, the company reported raising $2.5M. SOA Software is backed by Mellon Ventures, Paladin Capital, Palisades Ventures, and Redpoint, and most recently raised a Series C funding of $15M in August of 2004. The company develops software for managing Web Services and XML data.

EA, Amp'd Partner On Entertainment Titles
Video gaming giant EA and MVNO Amp'd Mobile today announced that the two firms will work together to bring 15 mobile games from EA to Amp'd Mobile's 3G handsets. The two companies will bring over 15 games from EA to Amp'd Mobile, starting early this year, as part of a EA branded channel. Amp'd said that it will offer a dedicated game channel showcasing video previews, user ratings, wallpapers, ring tones, and other content for each EA game. CinemaNow Supports Intel Viiv
Marina Del Rey-based CinemaNow, a provider of broadband video-on-demand services, said this morning that it will support Intel's new consumer-focused Viiv technology based PCs. CinemaNow said that both its US- and Japanese services would support Viiv, Intel's new Viiv brand provides a dual-core processor, chipset, and network controller aimed at consumers and handling of digital audio and video.
