Toshiba America Names GM
Irvine-based Toshiba America Information Systems has named a new Vice President and General Manager of its Telecommunications Systems Division. Toshiba said that Brian Metherell has been appointed to the position, managing its telecommunications services for small and medium sized businesses. Metherell has held positions at Nortel, Williams Communications, General Telecom, and Verestar.

JMAR Consolidates Facilities
San Diego-based JMAR, a developer of laser equipment for imaging and analysis, has moved all of its product development and its headquarters into a new buliding. JMAR said that it has a new 23,000 square foot facility that contains all of its product development teams in San Diego. JMAR develops laser and photonics-based products across a range of industries.

Document Sciences Finds Reseller
Carlsbad-based Document Sciences, a developer of software for electronically publishing documents, bills, quotes, proposals, and contracts, said yesterday that it has signed up a new reseller for its xPresso software. Boulder Colorado-based Flatiron Solutions will resell the company's software within North America. Financial Profiles Rolls Out Planning Software As A Service
Carlsbad-based Financial Profiles has rolled out a web-based, hosted version of its financial planning software. The firm said that it is now offering Profiles OnDemand, an online version of its Profiles+ Forecaster and Profiles+ Professional software, used by financial planners to allow financial planners to develop plans for their clients. Ixia Upgrade IxANVL Testing Tool
Calabasas-based Ixia said today that it has upgraded its IxANVL Conformance Testing tool, adding Microsoft Windows automation support and new protocols. The company said that it now supports testing of Metro Ethernet MEF9, MPLS VPN protocols, and SIP for Voice over IP. The new tool also now supports both Linux and Windows for controlling the solution. SIP is the protocol used by most Voice-over-IP providers, and is an industry standard used to allow for interoperability between VoIP software. MP (More info...)

Motorola Buys Broadband Innovations
Motorola has acquired San Diego-based Broadband Innovations, a developer of radio frequency (RF) technology and digital signal processing products for the fiber optic transmission market. Financial terms were not disclosed. Motorola said that it would use the acquisition to strengthen its modular cable modem termination system (M-CMTS) and channel bonding solutions. Fortune Names SoCal Firms To Best 100 List
Two Southern California-based firms have made it onto Fortune magazine's "Best 100 Companies to Work For" list in its most recent issue. Fortune has named Thousand Oaks-based biotech firm Amgen, and San Diego-based technology firm Qualcomm to its annual list of companies that rate the highest with their employees. Fortune cited the health care benefits, child care, work-life balance, telecommuting policies, sabbaticals, and unusual perks as the key to ranking in their annual listing.
