Fonality Appoints VA Linux Founder to Board
Los Angeles-based Fonality, a developer of IP PBX software that runs on commodity hardware, has named Larry Augustin, founder of VA Linux, to its board of directors. Augustin founded VA Linux (now VA Software), and was the creator of the popular SourceForge.net open source software development tool. Augustin is also on the board of the Source Development Labs (OSDL). Fonality is shipping a product based on the open source Asterisk platform.

Avexus Signs Integrator
San Diego-based Avexus, a provider of software for the management and maintenance of aircraft and other equipment, announced yesterday that it has signed Infospectrum, an Agoura-based systems integrator to co-develop solutions for the aviation industry. The combined services and solutions will provide inventory management, material management, and other management of aviation maintenance. iSold It Gets Into Tickets
Pasadena-based iSold It, a drop off franchise that sells items for people on eBay, said today that it has launched a new ticket resale program. The company said that its locations now accept sports tickets for sale on eBay. iSold It said that there is no charge to list tickets, and the company only charges a 15 percent commission and fees on the sale. iSolt It operates a franchise business focused around helping consumers list their items on eBay.

Motorola, JBL In Alliance
Northridge-based JBL, a division of Harman International, and Motorola announced this morning that the two companies will team to provide music accessories for mobile music devices. The firms said that they will build accessories for Motorola's music handsets, combining Motorola's phone designs and JBL's high fidelity sound brand. Motorola has recently been trying to make a play in the portable music player market, and had recently introduced the Motorola ROKR, an Apple iTunes-compatible mobile (More info...)

Napster Cuts Managers, Faces Rumors
Napster, the Los Angeles-based music download service has cut 10 middle managers from its payroll, according to MarketWatch and other sources. Napster said that it eliminated the positions as part of a consolidation of online music subscription and music sales efforts at Napster.com. The firm has been facing persistent rumors of upcoming layoffs or a possible sale of the company, which it has denied. UCLA Chemists Create Nano Motor
Researchers at UCLA, the University of Bologna, and the California NanoSystems Institute have created a nanometer size motor powered by sunlight. The researchers said that the results of their research will be published on January 31st in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The nanometer size, molecular motor could be used in nanoelectronics, molecular computers, or as nano valves for the delivery of anti-cancer drugs or other medicines.
