BiggerBoat Launches At DEMO
Beverly Hills-based BiggerBoat has launched a new, entertainment search engine at DEMO this week, also disclosing that it has received funding from Zone Ventures and First Round Capital. The firm said that it is developing search technology for navigating entertainment content, including movies, music, and other material. The company is coupling its search engine with its own advertising network, targeted on the entertainment industry. The search engine covers movies, DVDs, ringtones, and more.

Vendare Appoints Levinson CEO, Loses Cohn
El Segundo-based Vendare Media has lost its CEO, Keith Cohn, saying that he has resigned. Linda Fayne Levinson has been appointed as CEO of the firm, while it searches for a replacement. Levinson was most recently a partner at GRP Partners, and has held board spots on Overture Services, Homestead, and other firms. Vendare is a provider of a number of online Internet web properties, including Uproar.com. No reason for Cohn's sudden resignation was given.

Gateway CEO Resigns
Wayne Inouye, CEO of Irvine-based Gateway, has left the firm after resigning Wednesday. Gateway said that it has named Rick Snyder as the company's interim CEO, after the resignation Wednesday of Inouye. Inouye became CEO of Gateway after the company's acquisition of eMachines. Synder is a former president and COO of Gateway, and is currently on the company's board of directors. Gateway said that it has begun a search for a new CEO, and expects to find someone by late summer.

eHarmony Rolls Out Services For Married Couples
Pasadena-based eHarmony, best known for its computerized dating services, has rolled out a new service targeted at married couples. The firm has developed a new "tune-up" for married couples, which the firm said will help strengthen and enrich marriages. eHarmony said that the "marriage wellness service" provides a personlized, interactive online program for strengthening marriages. Forbes Names Midas 100
Forbes Magazine has released its Midas list of the top 100 dealmakers in the high tech and life sciences industries. Among the Southern California venture capitalists listed among the top 100 were Jim Armstrong of Clearstone Venture Partners, Brad Jones of Redpoint Ventures, Andrew Senyei of Enterprise Partners, Bill Elkus, also of Clearstone, and James Blair of Domain Associates. AWR Closes Series C Funding
El Segundo-based Applied Wave Research has disclosed a Series C venture capital funding of $6.4M. AWR riased the round from existing investors Synopsys and CMEA Ventures. New investors in this round included Intel Capital, Dow Pension Funds, and the Southern Ute Growth Fund. Newport Media Raises $25M Series B
Lake Forest-based Newport Media, a developer of semiconductors targeting the mobile TV receiver market, has raised $25M in a Series B funding. The round was led by Oak Investment Partners, and included participation by prior investors Benchmark Capital, Venrock Associates, Global Catalyst Partners and Pinnacle Ventures.
