Provide Commerce, Liberty Media Merger Approved
Stockholders in Englewood, Colorado-based Liberty Media and San Diego-based Provide Commerce approved the two companies' merger yesterday. The firms said that the majority of stockholders of Provide Commerce approved the $477M deal, which was first announced in December. Liberty Media owns QVC, Encore, Starz, IAC/InterActiveCorp, Expedia, and News Corp. Websense, Network Engines Create Microsoft Web Security Appliance
San Diego-based Websense, a developer of employee internet management software, and Network Engines, a provider of security appliances, said this week that the two companies are working together to create an integrated security appliance. The companies said that they will combine the Websense Web Security Suite, Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server software, and Network Engines security appliances. Yahoo Launches 2006 Sports Fantasy Baseball
Yahoo's Santa Monica media division has launched a new Fantasy Baseball game. The firm said that its newest release of its fantasy entertainment is now open for users, and will start February 16th. The application allows baseball fans to keep track of team and league statistics, and build their own roster of professional baseball players. Yahoo has also added a number of premium, charged services for the service, including a paid newsletter and wireless access to content.

Dot Hill CEO Retires
Carlsbad-based storage provider, Dot Hill Systems, said today that its current CEO James Lambert is retiring. The firm said that Lambert will retire to focus on a family business venture. Dana W. Kammergard, President of Dot Hill, will step into Lambert's position and join the board of directors. Kammersgard co-founded Artecon and Dot Hill along with Lambert. Dot Hill is a provider of storage systems for the financial and other industries.

MRV Shows MPLS Interoperability
Chatsworth-based MRV Communications this week said that it was demonstrating interoperability of its MPLS edge and aggregation products at the MPLS & Frame Relay Alliance. The firm said that its OptiSwitch Master 207 and OptiSwitch 9000 devices were part of the demonstration, which showed the interoperability of MPLS and VPLS services for telecommunications carriers. MRV's product provide optical Ethernet connectivity for voice, video, and data.

Online Searches Grow 55 Percent
Neilsen/Netratings reports that online searches grew 55 percent, year over year, to 5.1 billion searches in December of 2005. The firm, which provides media and market research on Internet traffic, said yesterday that it found that the total number of Internet searches across 60 search engines grew 55 percent year-over-year.
