NASA Looks To Raise Venture Fund
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is in the midst of an RFI for an In-Q-Tel style venture capital fund. NASA released a request for information last week for "Red Planet Capital", a venture capital fund that it is looking to establish to fund early-stage companies. According to the RFI, NASA is looking to attract and motivate private sector innovators and investors and leverage external venture capital in technology that would be likely to be of future use to NASA's mission. Path 1 Appoints New VP
San Diego-based Path 1 Network Technologies has named a new VP of Marketing. The firm said that Richard Segil has joined the company as VP of Marketing, and will lead the firm's brand management, market strategy, advertising, public relations, and corporate communications. Segil was most recently a consultant for Solectron, Instromedix and Ethertronics, and has also served as Director, Product Operations, for Gateway. Oversee.net Goes North
Los Angeles-based Oversee.net announced this morning that the company has opened up a San Mateo office as part of an expansion into Northern California. the firm said that it's looking to attract additional talent for its services, and has plans to open other offices in major cities throughout the U.S. Oversee operates an online advertising and network of web sites, and specializes in search engine optimization (SEO) to drive web traffic. Kleiner EIR Joins GameFly Board
Scott Sassa, Entrepreneur-in-Residence for Kleiner, Perkins, Caulfield & Byers, has joined the board of directors for Santa Monica-based GameFly. GameFly, a Sequoia and Lehman-backed startup that is providing video game rental services, said that Sassa would join Michael Moritz of Sequoia, Gap.com President Toby Lenk, and Lehman Brothers Venture Capital's Tom Banahan on the board of directors. Sassa was the president and CEO of Friendster, and has also served at NBC.

Nik Software Signs Deal, Gets Investment From Nikon
San Diego-based Nik Software, a developer of photo editing software, today said that it has signed an agreement with Nikon to jointly develop and distribute its digital photography software. Nik said that as part of the agreement, Nikon will make an investment into the firm. The investment is the company's first investment from an external source. MovieBeam Launches Services
Burbank-based MovieBeam today said that it has launched its movies-on-demand services nationwide, in 29 major metropolitan areas including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The firm said that its new service uses a set-top box and a indoor antenna to retrieve new movies, and will feature every new release and favorites from every major Hollywood studio. The company said that there will be no monthly fees for the $3.99 pay-per-view service, but that the service will require the purchase of a $1 (More info...)
