OC Register Taps WebSideStory
San Diego-based WebSideStory has scored a win with Freedom Metro Information, the publisher of the Orange County Register. WebSideStory said that Freedom Communications will implement its web analytics software across its properties, which also include the Colorado Springs Gazette and the Mesa, Arizona East Valley Tribume. WebSideStory's software is used for web analysis and determining how visitors and navigating and using its web sites.

Sony Releases Expansion Pack For EverQuest
San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment, operator of the popular EverQuest online game, announced this morning that it has shipped another expansion pack for its popular online environment. The firm said that its new Prophecy of Ro expansion for the online game. The expansion pack adds new features to the online world, including ability to destroy objects, new missions, new creatures, and traps.

Breach Teams On IDS
Carlsbad-based Breach Security is rolling out a new, appliance-based intrusion detection product, the firm announced this morning. Breach said that is has teamed with Applied Watch Technologies to develop a new line of intrusion detection systems (IDS). Breach said that Applied Watch will market a new security appliance based on the Breach Security BreachView SSL software, used for SSL traffic decryption. Netifice Raises $35M, Buys Competitor MegaPath
Costa Mesa-based Netifice Communications, a provider of Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions, has raised $35M in a venture round and acquired competitor MegaPath Networks. The acquisition, which will be structured as a merger, involved an undisclosed amount of stock and cash for the acquisition of MegaPath. Funding for the deal came from Boston Millennia Partners, Columpia Capital, Dolphin Equity Partners, Fidelity Ventures, H.I.G. Redpoint Closes $400M Fund
Redpoint Ventures has closed a new, $400M investment fund, socalTECH has learned. Redpoint III is the firm's third fund since its founding in 1999 by partners from IVP and Brentwood Venture Capital. Redpoint is managed by Brad Jones and Greg Martin in Southern California. The firm's most recent exit was Outerbay, which was acquired earlier this month by HP.
