Oryxe Raises Series C Funding
Irvine-based Oryxe Energy said today that it has received new funding for its environmental fuel additives. Oryxe said that Paladin capital Group has provided financing that brings it Series C round to $27M. Other firms in this round include Ridgewood Capital, Odyssey venture Partners, and DSM Venturing. LeadPoint Gets $2M
Los Angeles-based LeadPoint, which is devloping a marketplace for lead exchange, raised $2M in a Series B funding this week. LeadPoint said Tuesday that it received the funding from Redpoint Ventures along with affiliated universities. LeadPoint's prior round included participation by Stanford University. LeadPoint provides a lead exchange marketplace based on competitive bidding and ratings by buyers.

Network LIVE Adds Grosky As VP
Los Angeles-based Network LIVE, the live content provider that is a joint venture between AOL, XM Satellite Radio, and AEG said Wednesday that it has appointed Aaron Grosky as VP of Music. Grosky is the founder of Shift, Inc. and was most recently head of programming for Virgin Digital. WebSideStory Countersues NetRatings
San Diego-based WebSideStory has filed a new, patent infringement suit against NetRatings, a competing web analytics firm, alleging patent infringement. WebSideStory said that it is seeking unspecified monetary damages and an injunction against NetRatings. Earlier this month, NetRatings announced its own lawsuit against WebSideStory for patent infringement. UC Ties Into Google Video
The University of California's TV division said this week that its video programming is now available for downloading via Google's popular Google Video service. The group said that more than 1000 hours of education video content is now available through Google Video, including UCTV programs from the entire ten-campus UC system. The video content includes interviews, lectures, documentaries, musical performance and covers public affairs, science, health and medicine, humanities, and the arts. UCT (More info...)

Homestore Makes A Move, Changes Name And Focus
Westlake Village-based Homestore, the provider of real estate and apartment rental web sites and services, announced yesterday that the company is changing its name to Move, Inc. The company also said that it is acquiring Moving.com, a web site focused on consumer moving tools and access to moving services, along with establishing its own Move.com web site brand. X Prize Foundation Offers $2M For Lunar Landing
The X Prize Foundation, the organization behind the Ansari X Prize that spurred the development of privately held space vehicles, said yesterday that it is moving ahead with plans to offer a $2 million prize for the development of a lunar lander. Department of Defense Awards $150M In Grants
The United States Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded major, basic research grants to 20 universities, worth $150.6 million over the next five years. The DoD said yesterday that the grants will cover 26 topic areas in basic science and engineering, part of the DoD's Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) program.
