Interview with Mark Goodstein, X PRIZE Foundation
My interview this morning is with Mark Goodstein, who recently joined the X PRIZE Foundation. The X PRIZE foundation (www.xprizefoundation.com) is the organization behind the Ansari X PRIZE, the $10M award that was given for putting a vehicle into space, and is now setting up a new award and competition in the area of energy. Mark was most recently at X1, and was a founder of GoTo.com (now Overture) along with being an early employee of Idealab. Mark is Executive Director of this new prize (More info...)

vMix Gets Investment From Mission, Enterprise
San Diego-based vMix, an online video content community, has raised a first round of funding from Mission Ventures and Enterprise Partners. The company said that it would use the funding to enhance the site's offerings and product development, and expand its sales and marketing efforts. vMix allows users to upload videos, create slideshows out of digital photographs, and share user-created videos. Amount of the funding was not disclosed.

DTS Buys Firm
Agoura Hills-based Digital Theater Systems (DTS) has purchased Digital Booking Systems, an online booking service for cinema exhibitors and distributors. The firm said this morning that it has acquired the application service provider from FilmStew, a Hollywood-based online provider of news and reviews for the motion picture industry. TagWorld Partners With Universal
Santa Monica-based TagWorld, a provider of online communities, said today that it is in a new partnership with Universal Music Group. Universal will allow TagWorld members to view and add music videos from Universal Music Group artists such as 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, U2, Snoop Dogg, and others as part of their own TagWorld web site. SOA Adds Registry Independent Web Services Infrastructure Suite
Santa Monica-based SOA Software is reporting today that it has introduced a new web services infrastructure software that is independent of SOA registry vendors. The company said that its software has been validated by registry vendors Flashline, Infravio, LogicLibrary and Systinet through support of the UDDI standard. Websense Teams On Threat Management
San Diego-based Websense, a provider of web filtering and security software, has inked a deal to offer unified threat management. The company has teamed up with Crossbeam Systems to integrate its web security software with Crossbeam security appliances. The Websense software is now available on Crossbeam's appliances, which host a number of different web security software suites.

Occam Outsources Manufacturing
Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks, a provider of equipment for Ethernet- and IP-based broadband, announced this morning that it has outsourced its manufacturing operations to a contract manufacturer. Occam will tap Flash Electronics for its lead product, the Occam BLC 6000. Flash operates manufacturing sites in Silicon Valley, and Suzhoa and Shanghai China.
