SpaceX Rocket Destroyed In Launch
El Segundo-based SpaceX made another attempt at the launch of its low-cost Falcon 1 rocket today, and successfully clearing the launch pad, but lost the rocket and payload in flight a minute after launch. In a terse statement on the company's web site, Elon Musk, the company's founder said that more information will be posted once the company has time to analyze the problem. The rocket was launched from the Marshall Islands. The payload, the FalconSat-2, was an Air Force Academy satellite for me (More info...)

Airgain Gets $4.1M
Carlsbad-based Airgain, a developer of smart antennas for the WLAN market, has raised $4.1M in venture capital, the firm said this week. Airgain received the funding from Northwater Capital, via the Northwater Intellectual Property Fund and GEN3 Capital Fund. Airgain said that the funding brings its total capital raised to $10.9M. Airgain is developing smart antennas for WLAN routers and access points. The firm's research arm is based in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Interview with Michael Robertson, SIPphone
My interview this morning is with Michael Robertson, founder of MP3.com, Linspire, and now a new startup, SIPphone (www.sipphone.com). Rabble Goes Live On MetroPCS
San Diego-based Intercasting's Rabble mobile blogging applications have gone live to subscribers on MetroPCS, a wireless, regional service provider. Intercasting said today that its service, which allows users to create content and blogs from their mobile phones, is now available to MetroPCS subscribers in San Francisco, Sacramento, Tampa, Miami/Ft. CBS, Yahoo Team on 60 Minutes
CBS is bringing 60 Minutes to the web in a partnership with Yahoo, the two companies said yesterday. CBS said that content from the 60 Minutes program will start beginning with its fall season, when free video programming on Yahoo will be available throughout its web site. The two companies report that 60 Minutes content will be available throughout the News, Sports, and Entertainment Yahoo sites, along with a 60 Minutes microsite. Kyocera Wireless Names VP
San Diego-based Kyocera Wireless has named a new, VP of Global Marketing. The firm has named Tom Maguire to the position, where he will oversee all branding, advertising, public relations, and channel marketing for the firm. Maguire was most recently at Motorola, where he headed the Asia Pacific region.
