Salesforce.com Buys Sendia For $15M
Salesforce.com has purchased Santa Monica-based Sendia, for $15M in cash, adding Sendia's mobile Salesforce.com applications to its lineup of products. Salesforce.com said that it had acquired Sendia to mobile-enable more than 60 of its AppExchange applications. Salesforce.com launched a new offering, AppExchange Mobile, as part of its acquisition of Sendia, saying that the new product will reduce the challenge of developing mobile applications for its developers. Private Equity Firms Purchase 101communications
Chatsworth-based trade magazine publisher 101communications has been purchased by two private equity firms, according to reports in Dow Jones LBO Wire and Private Equity Week. The publisher of magazines such as Federal Computer Weekly, Redmond Magazine, and other computer-oriented trade publications was reportedly sold for about $75M to Nautic Partners LLC and Alta Communications. MySpace Hires Security Head
In the midst of a media frenzy over MySpace.com, Fox Interactive said this morning that it has named a new, Chief Security Officer who will oversee safety, education, privacy, and law enforcement programs for the popular online social networking site. MySpace said that it has named Hemanshu Nigam as Chief Security Officer to oversee both MySpace and other Fox Interactive Media properties. Smith Micro Buys PhoTags
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro has purchased PhoTags, a developer of photo and music management software. Smith Micro said last week that it purchased PhoTags, a firm which has offices in New York and Israel, for approximately $4.9M in stock. PhoTags's Active Images product allows users to store text messages, music, sound, and documents in JPEG files, and is targeted at mobile phone and wireless applications. The deal also calls for up to $3.5M in additional earnout.

Kyocera Wireless, Virgin Mobile Roll Out Youth Phone
San Diego-based Kyocera Wireless and Virgin Mobile USA have rolled out a new, mobile phone targeted at the youth space. Virgin Mobile said today that it will roll out its new Switch_Back handset, targeting the teen market with pre-loaded AOL Instant Messanger, a stylish design, and a QWERTY keypad for emailing, text messaging, instant messaging, and online browsing.
