Veoh Gets $12.5M From Eisner, Others
La Jolla-based Veoh Networks has received $12.5M in a Series B venture round, including an investment from Michael Eisner, former chairman and CEO of Walt Disney. Veoh reported this morning that it received the venture round from new investors Spark Capital, Time Warner, and The Tornante Company. Private Equity Funds Have Strong Quarter
The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) and Thomson Venture Economics are reporting that private equity fundraising had a very strong first quarter, with ninety-three funds raising a combined $31.4 billion. The groups reported that fifty-one venture funds accounted for $6.5 billion of that total, a significant increase over the first quarter of 2005. Buy.com Goes To Canada
Aliso Viejo-based Buy.com, the online Internet retailer, said that it is entering the Canadian market with a new, Canadian web site at www.ca.buy.com. The firm said that it is launching a new Canadian site through its wholly owned subsidiary, Buy.com Canada. The new site will provide computer, software, consumer electronics, and other electronics items. Buy.com is an Internet retailer that provides electronics, books, music, toys, and sporting goods.

Akonix, Jabber Partner On API
San Diego-based Akonix has partnered with Denver-based Jabber to connect the company's products. The two companies said today that the Akonix instant messaging security appliance will connect with Jabber's content filtering components. The two firms are targeting Wall Street and federal government customers with the ability to provide real-time, content filtering and compliance checks of instant messaging conversations. WebVisible Names Board Member
Irvine-based WebVisible, a provider of local online advertising, has appointed a new member of its board of directors. WebVisible is reporting that Patrick Marshall, former Group Vice President of Verizon Information Services, has joined the company's board. Marshall headed Verizon's SuperPages.com efforts. WebVisible develops software for local online advertising, targeted at publishers of Yellow Pages. STI Adds VP
Santa Barbara-based Superconductor Technologies announced yesterday that it has appointed a new vice president. STI said that Adam Shelton has joined the company as Vice President of Product Management and Marketing. Shelton joins the firm from Motorola, where he was senior director of marketing. He has also served at Advanced Fibre Communications (AFC) and Mahi Networks. STI is a provider of components for wireless voice and data.
