LeisureLink Gets $5M
Pasadena-based LeisureLink has raised $5M in venture capital funding, saying this morning that Mission Ventures and Clearstone Venture Partners had invested in the company. LeisureLink is developing an electronic marketplace for connecting travelers with vacation rentals and timeshares. The firm provides vacation rental management companies with a way to attract customers, and connects into online travel agencies and reservation systems. Yahoo Goes Tech
Yahoo's Santa Monica-based media group is going for the technology review and advice market, saying yesterday that it has launched Yahoo! Tech (tech.yahoo.com), a new web site focused on choosing and using technology. The new site goes squarely against CNET, which has a large presence in the technology review and advice space. HELIO Launches Services
Los Angeles-based HELIO today launched its youth oriented, mobile phone service, saying that the service is now available nationwide. HELIO, an MVNO which is a joint venture between Earthlink and SK Telecom, said that its services are available through its web site and by the end of the month will be sold at approximately 1,000 retail locations. IntelliDot Gets $13M
San Diego-based IntelliDOT, a provider of healthcare information systems focused on patient safety and workflow, said is has received $13M in a Series C funding. The new round of funding was led by Integral Capital Partners. IntelliDOT said that the funding will be used to expand the market rollout of its systems. IntelliDOT is developing a bedside bar-coding system used to manage medication and nurse workflow.

Be Jane Appoints Chairman, Gets Investment
Burbank-based Be Jane, an online web site targeting do-it-yourself women, said today that it has appointed Eric P. Meyer as Chairman and Chief Operating Officer. Meyer was previously a founding member of NetFlix. Meyer will oversee expansion, operations, and finance for Be Jane. The company also disclosed that Meyer had invested in the firm. Be Jane is developing web and multimedia content focused on women and home improvement projects.

Novocell Hires CEO
Irvine-based Novocell has hired a new CEO, saying today that it has appointed Alan Lewis as President and CEO of the firm. Novocell is looking to commercialize stem cell therapies and drugs for diabetes and other chronic diseases. Lewis has served at Signal Pharmaceuticals, Wyeth-Ayerst, and other companies. He also is a director of Discovery Partners International.

Gemstar Signs Samsung
Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide International has signed a new licensee for its electronic viewing guides, saying today that Samsung Electronics will license its VCR Plus+ and interactive program guides for us in Samsung's digital televisions, digital recording devices, and VCRs. Gemstar said that the agreement renews a previous agreement with Samsung.
