CinemaNow, Disney Partner On Download-to-Own
Marina Del Rey-based CinemaNow and Buena Vista Home Entertainment today announced a new deal for CinemaNow to offer Buena Vista Home Entertainment's titles for download-to-own through its web site. Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Disney's home video division, will offer titles starting in June. Movies that will be offered through the service include Glory Road, Flightplan, The Insider, and upcoming movies Eight Below and Annapolis. Internet Advertising Surges In First Quarter
The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers have released a new study, showing that Internet advertising surged in the first quarter of the year. According to the study, Internet advertising revenues reached a record, $3.9 billion for the first quarter of 2006. The returns are an increase of 38 percent over the first quarter of last year, and a six percent increase over the fourth quarter of 2005. ProcessClaims Acquired By CCC
Manhattan Beach-based ProcessClaims has been acquired by Chicago-based CCC Information Services, CCC announced yesterday. CCC Information Services, which supplies technology to the automotive claims and collision repair industry, said that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire ProcessClaims, which develops software for the automotive claims industry. FTC Settles With P2P File Sharing Operator
The Federal Trade Commission is reporting that it has settled with a Los Angeles-based operator of a P2P file sharing site, over charges that he duped customers into buying memberships on his web site. The FTC said that Cashier Myricks, who claimed that his Web site would allow users of peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing programs to transfer copyright materials without violating the law, settled with the FTC, and will refund more than $15,000 to the customers he duped into buying memberships. Streamload Powers AMD Storage Service
San Diego-based Streamload today said that it has been selected by Advanced Micro Devices to power AMD's new LIVE Media Vault Service. Streamload will power AMD's online services for remote access, sharing, and storage of digital media. Gateway Gets Education Win
Irvine-based PC provider Gateway has scored a $2.1M contract with the Omaha Public School district in Omaha, Nebraska. The PC maker said that it will provide more than 1700 desktop and notebook PCs, to be used by students, faculty, and staff in the classroom, computer labs, and on mobile/wireless carts. The contract will be used to supply computers to all of Omaha's 90 schools.
