Interactive Video Technologies Gets $5M
Los Angeles-based Interactive Video Technologies (IVT) has received $5M in venture capital funding from Monitor Ventures and prior investor Tudor Ventures. The firm said this morning that it would use the funding to enable it to bring new products to market. IVT develops software for the creation, management, and distribution of live and on-demand webcasts. Quest Software Drawn Into Options Investigation
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software is the latest technology firm being drawn into an industry-wide investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission on the granting of stock options. Quest said this morning that it has been contacted by the SEC regarding an informal inquiry into Quests's past stock option grant practices. Foundation 9 Gets Strategic Investment
Foundation 9, which operates a number of game development studios, said today it has received a strategic investment from Francisco Partners. Foundation 9 said that Francisco Partners will fund the company with up to $150M over the next few years, for Foundation's organic growth, IP development, and future acquisitions. CinemaNow Adds Warner
Marina Del Rey-based CinemaNow has added yet another studio supporting its download-to-own services, saying today that it has signed a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group to offer both movies and television shows for download-to-own. The move follows CinemaNow's announcement yesterday that it added Buena Vista Home Entertainment to the service. Warner's movies will be made available today for purchase. Amp'd Goes Prepaid
Los Angeles-based MVNO Amp'd Mobile is going prepaid, saying yesterday that it will offer a pre-paid version of its mobile phone services. Amp'd will offer its youth-oriented, multimedia cell phone service to consumers that allows consumers to buy a phone and then pay as you go for service. The company said that it will allow consumers to purchase credits for the service through their phone, online, or by calling member services. Atheros, Broadcom Demonstrate 802.11n
Irvine-based Broadcom and Santa Clara-based Atheros announced the demonstration of interoperability of their 802.11n products yesterday, saying that the companies have completed joint interoperability testing between Broadcom and Atheros chipsets. Both companies are developing high speed, wireless LAN chips around the IEEE 802.11n draft specification, the next standard being developed for WiFi. V-ENABLE Adds Developer Program
San Diego-based V-Enable, a developer of mobile voice and text-search solutions, has rolled out a new developer program. The firm said yesterday that it has launched a partner program for developers to take advantage of its mobile search technology. The program covers BREW, JAVA, SYMBIAN, WAP and xHTML platforms.
