Programmers Group Files Complaints Over H-1B Abuse
An industry group representing technical and professional workers in the information technology field is targeting employers who are actively recruiting for H-1B visa holders. The Programmers Guild, which lobbies against H-1B and offshore outsourcing, said that it has filed compliants with the U.S. Department of Justice this year over the efforts by over 300 companies that have posted jobs that specifically express preferences towards hiring foreign workers on H-1B visas. Verimatrix Raises $8M
San Diego-based Verimatrix has raised a Series B round of funding. The round of funding was led by Crescendo Ventures, and also included participation by prior investors Mission Ventures and Siemens Venture Capital. Verimatrix is developing access control and content protection and watermarking technology for IPTV. The firm's software solution is used to encrypt and authenticate digital video content to set top boxes. The firm said it will use the funding to aggresively enter new markets.

Chimeracore Raises Venture Funding
Santa Barbara-based Chimeracore, a company that is developing therapeutics targeted at cancer based on synthetic materials, has received a round of venture funding, socalTECH has learned. The funding, which was not announced publicly, included an investment from DFJ Frontier, and closed April 18th. Chimeracore is headed by a team of Ph.Ds from UC Santa Barbara. The company did not return emails asking for comment on the deal.

Enclarity, Pharmaceutical Research Firm In Alliance
Aliso Viejo-based Enclarity has signed a new strategic alliance with Surveillance Data, a provider of research for the pharmaceutical manufacturing alliance, the companies said this week. The companies will combine Enclarity's hosted solution for analytics to SDI's patient database, and applying that combination for marketing solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. Vativ Ships HDMI Receiver Chip
San Diego-based Vativ has shipped a new HDMI receiver chip. Vativ said this week that it has shipped a new, HDMI receiver chip targeted at digital TV. The company's new VTV2310 device is targeted in use in HD-DVD players, Blue-ray DVD players, HD-DVD recorders, set top boxes, gaming consoles, and camcorders. The chip is based on the company's DSP-based adaptive equalizer technology. Nexsan Adds iSCSI Connectivity
Woodland Hills-based Nexsan Technologies, a provider of SATA-based, RAID storage systems, has added iSCSI capability to its SATABeast and SATABoy disk arrays. Nexsan said yesterday that its products now include built-in iSCSI functionality, which allow the devices to connect to servers via IP networks. Nexsan develops disk storage systems that use inexpensive SATA disk drives as storage, which also connect to Fibre Channel storage area networks.

iRise Signs BearingPoint
El Segundo-based iRise has signed on management consulting firm BearingPoint as a customer. iRise said this week that BearingPoint will take advantage of its application simulation and definition tools to bring solutions to its clients. HireRight Adds Drug Testing To Employee Screening Solution
Irvine-based HireRight has released the next generation of the company's employment screening solutions, saying that its product now allows employers to manage drug testing programs. The company's services help to automate the drug testing process, and includes a network of collection sites for drug tests. HireRight provides services for managing employee background checks.

LogicalApps Hires VP
Irvine-based LogicalApps has hired a Senior Vice President of Product Development, Tom Tobin, according to the search firm that placed Tobin at the firm. Tobin was most recently Vice President of Product Development at Peregrine Systems, where he managed more than 150 developers. He has also Fair Isaac, and HNC Software. Tobin was placed by BridgeGate. LogicalApps develops business automation software aimed at compliance.

Broadcom Loses Exec
Irvine-based Broadcom has lost its CTO of Networking to Nortel. Nortel announced yesterday that John J. Roese has joined the company as its Chief Technology Officer, heading up the company's R&D strategy and research. Roese was Vice President and CTO of Networking Technologies at Broadcom, and had previously served as EVP and CTO at Enterasys, and CTO at Cabletron.
