United Online Names Sales Head
Woodland Hills-based United Online has hired a new EVP of Sales and Chief Sales Officer, saying today that it has hired Jeremy Helfand to the newly created position. Helfand joins the company from Advertising.com, where he was senior vice president and general manager. Helfand will be rsponsible for sales at United Online's Media Group. ORFID Signs Deal With BASF
Los Angeles-based ORFID has signed a deal with BASF Future Business BmbH, to develop printable organic electronics, the firm said yesterday. The two companies will collaborate on printable organic electronic devices for display backplanes, RFID tags, and other electronics products. ORFID said that BASF will provide organic materials, materials expertise, and financial resources for development and commercialization of its technology. Defense Contractor Completes San Diego Research Buy
Fairfax, Virginia-based Argon ST, a developer of systems and sensors for the defense and national security market, has completed its $41M purchase of San Diego-based San Diego Research Center. Argon said yesterday that the acquisition is expected to add approximately $5M to its fourth quarter revenues. San Diego Research Center is a provider of wireless communications products for the military. Headwater MB was the financial advisor to SDRC.

Vangard Voice Systems Names Chairman
Rancho Santa Margarita-based Vangard Voice Systems has appointed the former co-founder and CEO of Rainbow Technologies to its board. Vangard named Walt Straub as Chairman of the company's board of directors, replcaing Frederick McKee. Straub was co-founder of Rainbow Technologies, and also served as President and CEO of Rainbow. The company also named CEO Bob Bova to the board. Vangard is developing software tools for voice enabling enterprise applications.

Dot Hill Gets Patent
Carlsbad-based Dot Hill Systems, a provider of data storage systems, announced this week that it has received a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark office. The patent, 7,062,591, covers the use of direct memory access (DMA) engines in network storage controllers. The patent is entitled "Controller Data Sharing Using a Modular DMA Architecture" was granted to Victor Key Pecone. Envision Financial Releases Cash Management Software
Tustin-based Envision Financial Systems, a provider of software for the financial industry, has released new software for cash reconciliation and money movement. The firm said that it has released its PACcash software system, designed for reconciling cash for mutual fund companies and service providers. The software is used for transaction analysis and for settlement of money transfers. The new software levarages technology from Chesapeake System Solutions.
