Tommy McGloin is founder of DoctorsDirect.com (www.doctorsdirect.com), a startup that is developing a service that connects patients to doctors. Tommy is former SVP and GM of MapQuest, and was also head of AOL Moviefone and Digital City. Irvine Firm Licenses Microsoft Virtual Reality Technology
An Irvine-based developer of 3D and virtual reality technology has licensed technology from Microsoft's new IP Ventures program, Microsoft said this week. Irvine-based EON Reality has licensed technology from Microsoft's Redmond research lab, called "TouchLight", that allows users to interact with 3-D visual content. Demarc Scores In World Cup
Carpinteria-based Demarc Security has scored a win for its network security systems, with an install at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Demarc's hardware was used by Avaya as part of a converged communications network for the event. According to Avaya, Demarc's Network IDS system, Sentarus, was the key to secure the soccer event, and was used to detect real-time attacks by hackers, malware, worms, and viruses. BridgeCo Gets Design Win
Los Angeles-based BridgeCo, a developer of semiconductors for the entertainment and media industry, said this week that its digital media processor has been selected by TerraTec for a Wi-Fi enabled media player. TerraTec's NOXON iRadio, which connects through any 802.11 router to Internet radio stations or to locally stored audio files, uses BridgeCo's processor and middleware. SyncVoice Bolsters Executive Team
Costa Mesa-based SyncVoice has added three new executives to the firm, saying this week that it has added Mike Ortega as Senior Vice President of Sales, Kaveh Mahjoob as Vice President of Engineering, and Carolyn Lewis as Director of Product Management. Ortega was most recently at InterNAP; Mahjoob was at B.I. Resources, a business intelligence consulting firm; and Carolyn Lewis was at Cisco Systems. Emulex Gets VMware Qualification From Sun
Costa Mesa-based Emulex is reporting that its Sun Microsystems-branded HBAs have been qualified by Sun for use in the popular VMware ESX Server virtualization environment. Emulex said that its 2 Gb/s and 4 Gb/s Lightpulse Host Bus Adapters, used for connecting Fibre Channel storage to computer systems, work with the ESX Server environment.
