Digital Domain Finds $31M
Venice-based Digital Domain, a digital studio and production company serving Hollywood, has received $31M. Digital Domain said that the funding came from Falcon Investment Advisors and GunnAllen Financial. Digital Domain produces digital effects for feature films, commercials, and music videos, and has developed sequences for Titantic, Day After Tomorrow, and I, Robot, along with the Budweiser Super Bowl "Superfan" spot.

Spot Runner Inks Alliance With Ad Agency
Los Angeles-based Spot Runner, an Internet-based advertising agency that is developing a Google-like service to help local businesses advertise on TV, has inked a strategic relationship with JWT, a major, New York-based national advertising agency. The two companies said they will collaborate on national clients on local TV advertising solutions and emerging video, such as online video, video-on-demand, and IPTV. Spot Runner is funded by Battery Ventures, Index Ventures, and others.

Power-One, Silicon Labs Resolve Lawsuit
Camarillo-based Power-One, a developer of power semiconductors, has resolved a lawsuit filed by the firm against Silicon Labs, an Austin-based competitor. Power-One said that the companies have agreed to settle and resolve the patent infringement suit filed by Power-One, and will commence immediate joint development. Power-One will also offer licenses to customers of Silicon Laboratories, but will not provide any IP licenses to the firm.

BridgeCo Supports New Internet Radio Standards
Los Angeles-based BridgeCo, a company developing silicon for the home entertainment networking market, has upgraded its processors to support the new Windows Media Streaming (WMS) and Real-time Streaming Protocol (RTSP). The firm said that the support will allow it to support web-based radio stations, which offer streaming audio services with advanced quality of service performance guarantees. Qualstar Loses CFO
Simi Valley-based Qualstar, a provider of tape storage systems, has lost its CFO. Qualstar said Monday that Frederic T. Boyer, its VP and CFO, has resigned to join another company. Boyer will leave the firm August 18th. According to Qualstar, Boyer has accepted a position with another company that does not compete with Qualstar. William Gervais, the firm's President and CEO, will serve as Interim CFO while finding a successor.

LogicBlaze Releases Upgraded SOA Tool
Marina Del Rey-based open source software firm LogicBlaze said Monday that it has upgraded its LogicBlaze FUSE 1.2 SOA software. The upgraded software features enhanced security, a business information portal, and Eclipse-based tools. FUSE provides a development tool that allows you to create Service-Oriented-Architecture, XML-based code around SOA standards--used by developers to tie together disparate, SOA-based components.
