Zogenix Raises $60M
San Diego-based Zogenix has raised $60M in a Series A financing, the firm announced this morning. The company received funding from Clarus Ventures and Domain Associates, along with additional investors BA Venture Partners, Thomas, McNerney & Partners, and Life Science Angels. The funding will be used in an acquisition of migraine treatment technology from Hayward, California-based Aradigm Corporation. Mitrix Raises $10M
Irvine-based Mitrix has raised $10M in a Series A investment round for its supply chain management solutions. Funding came from CMEA Ventures, and also included participation by Logispring. The funding will be used for the company's product development and support organization. As part of the funding, Jim Watson of CMEA will join the firm's board. Mitrix is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui & Co.

New York Times Acquires Information Provider For $35M
The New York Times has acquired Santa Monica-based Baseline StudioSystems, an information provider that provides an online database and research service for information on the film and television industries. The deal was worth $35M in cash. Baseline supplies proprietary entertainment information to Hollywood, and was owned by Hollywood Media Corp. SAIC Buys Defense Products Firm
San Diego-based Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) announced this morning that it has acquired Applied Ordnance Technology, a Waldorf, Maryland firm. Applied Ornance develops products and services in the areas of ordnance and weapons systems engineering and design. Terms were not disclosed. SAIC is a major provider of research and engineering for the national security, homeland defense, and other government agencies.

Nexsan Partners For iSCSI Support
Woodland Hills-based Nexsan Technologies has partnered with a provider of iSCSI storage gateways to add iSCSI support to its storage area network products. Nexsan said today that it has developed a new unified IP SAN/NAS storage product with New Jersey-based RELDATA. The new product combines Nexsan's SATABoy storage arrays and RELDATA's IP gateways. Nexsan is a provider of storage arrays, used by enterprise customers to store their data on inexpensive SATA disk.

Zinc Matrix Rolls Out Batteries
Camarillo-based Zinc Matrix Power announced last week that it is demonstrating its new silver-zinc rechargeable battery technology at a trade show this week. Zinc Matrix is developing silver-zinc batteries, which are an alternative to mainstream lithium-ion batteries typically used in portable applications. Zinc Matrix Power's batteries are based on water-based chemistry, which the company says is safer than lithium-ion, and has a higher energy density.
