inQ Raises $7.75M
Agoura Hills-based inQ has raised $7.75M in a Series C round, the firm told socalTECH today, in a third round of funding for the firm's interactive marketing and sales conversion services. The round was led by Emergence Capital and Partech International, and included participation by existing inQ investors Dolphin Equity, Hudson Partners, and Vertrue. DivX Sets Terms Of IPO
San Diego-based DivX set the terms of its IPO last night, saying in a regulatory filing that it is estimating the price of its IPO on 9.1M shares of its common stock at between $12.00 and $14.00 per share. The firm is looking to raise up to $146.5M on the Nasdaq as DIVX. Emulex Buys Sierra Logic for $180M
Costa Mesa-based Emulex has acquired Roseville-based Sierra Logic, saying last night that it will pay $180M in cash for the firm. Sierra Logic is a provider of ASIC components and firmware for the enterprise storage systems market, including embedded bridges and routers for connecting Serial ATA (SATA) and Fibre Channel (FC) storage. Sierra Logic employs approximately 70, mostly engineering staff in Roseville. The acquisition is the second for Emulex this year, after the acquisition of Aarohi Co (More info...)

SimpleTech Expands In Malaysia
Santa Ana-based SimpleTech said today that it is building a new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia, in order to take advantage of a lower tax rate and lowering its overall cost structure. The firm said it will invest approximately $28M in Malaysia, for its 200,000 square foot facility. The government of Malaysia is giving the company an extended tax holiday as part of a comprehensive incentive package. SimpleTech is a manufacturer of Flash memory, DRAM, and external storage products.

Vanguard Voice Signs Mobile Application Provider
Rancho Santa Margarita-based Vanguard Voice Systems, and a mobile application provider, Orange-based Avance Solutions, said today that Avance will use Vanguard's voice recognition technology in its products. Avance develops mobile applications used by companies for data capture. The firm will tap Vanguard's software for offering voice recognition as a method of data input. Vanguard Voice develops middleware for speech recognition.

Developer Makes Solar Panels Standard
A home developer building a 300 home project in Bakersfield said today that it will provide solar power systems as a standard feature on all of its homes. BLUE S.K.Y Homes, which is developing a residential home project in the master planned community of City in the Hills said that the solar energy systems will range from between 1.7 and 3.5 kilowatts, and will use systems from Sharp Solar, with installation by installer Renewable Energy Concepts (REC). Linspire Makes Software Download Service Free
San Diego-based Linspire, provider of a end-user targeted Linux distribution, has dropped its fee for its "Click 'N Run" software download service. The firm, which previously charged anywhere from $20 to $50 for users to use the service, said that it will offer it as a free service. The service is used to download desktop Linux applications to Linspire's distribution and to purchase premium products.
