Broadcom Uncovers More Option Errors
Irvine-based Broadcom is reporting this morning that it has uncovered more option errors in its accounting. The firm said that it expects that the expenses recorded in its restatements will be at least twice the previously announced $750M it said it would record for non-cash, stock-based compensation recorded in the years 2000 through 2003. Fox Premieres "The Simpsons" Online
Fox Interactive Media is showing a first look at the next season of the popular animated series "The Simpsons", saying today that it is rolling out a promotional look at the first seven minutes of the first episode of the series today. Three Fox Interactive Media sites, including MySpace.com, FOX.com, and IGN TV will stream the exclusive premiere, two days before the network debut on Fox. Yahoo!, NFL Partner On Web Broadcast Deal
Yahoo's Santa Monica-based media unit is in a new deal with the National Football League, saying that it will broadcast live NFL football games via Yahoo's sports site, for users outside of North America. The new online subscription service, which will cost $259.99 for the 17-week NFL season, or $24.99 per week, will allow users to watch every NFL game live. SKY MobileMedia Buys e-SIM
San Diego-based SKY MobileMedia announced this morning that it is acquiring Jerusalem, Israel-based e-SIM Ltd, a provider of interfaces for mobile handsets. SKY did not disclosed the terms of the purchase. SKY will purchase substantially all of the assets of e-SIM. The firm said it will combine its mobile applications engine with the man-mobile interface solutions from e-SIM under its existing SKY-MAP products. The firm will also hire e-SIM's employees. USC Stevens Hires Licensing Director
The University of Southern California's Stevens Institute, the new technology commercialization center funded by Sequoia Capital venture capitalist and USC alumni Mark Stevens, has hired a director of licensing. The school has hired Joseph Koepnick, from Stanford University, to the position. Koepnick was formerly CEO of Staccato Systems, and has served as a licensing associate at Stanford's office of technology licensing. Gateway Names New CEO
Irvine-based Gateway has appointed a new CEO, saying last night that it has appointed J. Edward Coleman as chief executive officer of the firm. Coleman replaces interim CEO Rick Snyder, who will remain Chairman of the board. Snyder had been CEO since February, since CEO Wayne Inouye suddenly resigned. Coleman has served as CEO and Chairman of CompuCom, and was most recently at Arrow Electronics. Coleman will also join the firm's board. Itochu Invests In Comic Book Movies
Itochu Corp. has made an investment in Comic Book Movies, a Hollywood-based firm developing multimedia comic books. The deal come as part of a strategic investment and partnership in the firm. Comic Book Movies is a new company headed by Michael Uslan and M. Jonathan Roberts. Uslan is known as the producer of "Where On Earth Is Carmen Sandiego".
