Guidance Software Files For IPO
Pasadena-based Guidance Software, a developer of software used for digital forensics, has filed for an IPO. Guidance, in an SEC filing Friday, said it is looking to raise up to $80M in an IPO on the Nasdaq under the symbol GUID. The IPO is being underwritten by Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers, Wachovia Securities, and A.G. Edwards. Pay Up For VCs
It's good to be a VC this year, according to a new analysis by Dow Jones, in a new study which shows that the total take home pay for venture capitalists averaged $816,000 this year, a 45% increase over total compensation last year. The study, the Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst-Holt Compensation Study, found that the increase was the biggest year-to-year increase since the study began in 2002. Sonos Plugs Into Rhapsody
Santa Barbara-based Sonos has scored a major win with RealNetworks, saying Thursday that the company has collaborated with RealNetworks to connect the firm's Rhapsody web services directly to Sonos digital music players. Sonos, which develops user-friendly multi room digital music players, said that its systems now include plug-and-play support for RealNetworks' Rhapsody online music service. Gemstar, Yahoo In Licensing Deal
Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide International, the provider of television programming guides and related products, said Thursday that it has signed a license agreement with Yahoo. Yahoo will icense Gemstar-TV Guide's patent portfolio, for an interactive program guides delivered through Yahoo or through a PC. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Linspire To Pay Installation Bounty
San Diego-based Linspire, looking to gain greater market share for its desktop LInux distribution, has turned to an age old technique to spur installations: cash. SpotRunner Signs OrthoClear
Los Angeles-based SpotRunner, which provides an internet-based service that allows companies to easily place television advertising campaigns, said this week that it has established a strategic marketing partnership with OrthoClear, a provider of orthodontics. vMix Adds Real Time Recording
San Diego-based vMix, an online web community focused on video slideshows and mashups, has introduced a new instant video recording feature to the company's services. vMix said that its new vMix Capture feature allows members to instantly record video and photos from a webcam to the site. vMix differentiates itself from the many other user-generated video and sharing sites by a focus on user remixes and slideshows. vMix is backed by Enterprise Partners and Mission Ventures.

TeamDating Connects To Skype Presence
Los Angeles-based dating web site TeamDating reports this week that it has tied into the popular voice-over-IP service Skype, with a new feature that allows members to see Skype presence, make calls, or chat through the service. The online dating site said that their Skype presence will show up underneath their profiles when they come up in a search and allow members to contact others.

Silvus Shows MIMO Technology
Los Angeles-based Silvus Communications Systems, a provider of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems used for wireless communications, is announcing today that it has demonstrated its compact transceiver. Helio, Celebrity Content Firm Partner
Kargo, a celebrity content firm that provides voice tones of Gilbert Gottfried, Flavor Flav, and other celebrities, has inked a deal with MVNO Helio to deliver its content on its mobile service. Emulex Appoints CTO
Costa Mea-based Emulex, a developer of storage area networking equipment, said this week that it has appointed a new CTO. Emulex has appointed Stuart Berman to CTO and Senior Vice President. Berman has been at Emulex since 2003, which he joined as part of the firm's acquisition of Fibre Channel switch maker Vixel.
