Aerovironment Files For IPO
Monrovia-based Aerovironment has filed for an IPO, saying in a SEC filing that it is looking to raise up to $115M on the Nasdaq as AVAV. Aerovironment designs unmanned aircraft for the U.S. Department of Defense and was founded by renown aerospace inventor Paul MacCready. The company reported revenues of $139M in its fiscal year 2006, and net income of $11.4M for the same period. Study: Local Search Gains Momentum
comScore Networks is reporting in a new study that the local search market continued to gain momentum, with a 43 percent increase in local searches online in July over the same period last year. comScore said that 63 precent of U.S. Internet users, approximately 109 million people, conducted a local search online in July, up 43 percent from July of 2005. Eventful Plugs Into Microsoft Windows Live
San Diego-based Eventful has inked a deal with Microsoft, saying Thursday that it has developed a new event search plugin for Microsoft's Windows Live Writer blogging software. The plugin lets bloggers search Eventful's index of events and embed those events into their blogs. Microsoft's Windows Live Writer software is an authoring tool for people to create their own blog posts. McClatchy Extends WebVisible To The Miami Herald
Irvine-based WebVisible reported Thursday that The McClatchy Company is extending its SearchMax interactive advertising product sales to the Miami Herald, after a successful deployment at the Star Tribune. WebVisible's product will be sold by The Miami Herald's print and interactive ad sales divisions. The application helps local businesses advertise on Google, Yahoo, MSN,, and other search engines. WebVisible is backed by Redpoint Ventures.

Aristos Logic Joins Blade Server Organization
Foothill Ranch-based Aristos Logic has joined, an industry organization for the blade server industry, the firm said this week. Aristos Logic said that the move was part of its efforts with IBM to deliver an integrated storage blade for IBM's popular BladeCenter family of products. Aristos Logic develops RAID storage processors. Aristos Logic is backed by Panorama Capital, QTV Capital, TPG Ventures, and Woodside Fund.

Ixia Launches Software For VoIP Testing
Calabasas-based Ixia has launched a new, software-only version of the company's IxVoice VoIP testing system, the firm said yesterday. The new IxVoice Lite software tests IMS and VoIP protocols. The firm said that the entry-level software is designed to test SIP, SCCP, H.323, and other voice-over-IP protocols, and can be used on individual workstations. Ixia is a provider of network testing hardware and software.

Gateway Opens New Facility In Nashville
Irvine-based computer maker Gateway has opened up a new, configure-to-order facility in Nashville, Tennesse, the firm reported Thursday. The new facility is the second new U.S. based facility to open for the company in recent weeks, following a new technical support center the firm opened in South Dakota last month. The company said that all of its tech support calls are answered in North America, and the new facility will help it best service existing customers and attract new ones.

AVST Adds To Board
Foothill Ranch-based Applied Voice & Speech Technologies said Thursday that it has named Charles Stevens to its board of directors. Stevens was most recently a Corporate Vice President at Microsoft. AVST develops enterprise communications infrastructure used by companies to manage their phone calls and call processing.
