Amgen Funds $25M Scholarship Program
Thousand Oaks-based biotech firm Amgen has rolled out a major scholarship program targeting undergraduates, saying that it has unveiled a $25M eight year program to provide research experience to students interested in pursuing graduate degrees and careers in science. The Amgen Foundation said that ten schools will receive $1M each in the initial phase of its program. JibJab Runs Comedy On VCAST
Santa Monica-based JibJab, the venture-funded content startup known for its humorous online parodies, said today that it has teamed up with Verizon Wireless and John Landis to produce six online short comedy films. The firm said that the films, which are available on Verizon Wireless' V CAST services, feature up-and-coming sketch comedians. The comedy films will be available for free starting today to Verizon V Cast subscribers or at the firm's web site.

go2 Goes Golfing
Irvine-based Go2, a provider of local search and mobile content, said Thursday that the firm has launched a new golf application. The firm said its go2 Golf mobile web application provides a golf-related mobile website and directory. The company has teamed with Golf Digest for the site, which will provide information on golf courses, equipment, and retailers.

Quorum Ships RF CMOS Components
San Diego-based Quorum Systems, a manufacturer of CMOS radio frequency transceivers, said this week that it has gone into volume production with its quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE transceiver. The firm originally launched the product in late 2005, and said it is now in volume production. Quorum is venture-backed by Enterprise Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers.

Digital Insight Expands Customer Relationship
Calabasas-based Digital Insight, a provider of hosted e-banking services, said this week that it has renewed a deal with Eastern Virginia Bankshares, a Virginia-based bank. Digital Insight will provide its Internet banking and bill payment services to each of the company's 22 offices.

MyShape Appoints CFO
Pasadena-based myShape, an angel-backed, online women's fashion retailer, said this week that it has appointed a new CFO. myShape has appointed Joe Deckop, former CFO of Victoria's Secret, to the position. Deckop has also served as COO of Wet Seal, and also served as an executive at Disney Stores. The firm said that Deckop will oversee the company's financial and retail operations and logistics. myShape is backed by the Pasadena Angels and others.

Linksys Adds General Manager to Consumer Business
Irvine-based Linksys said today that it has appointed Greg Memo to Vice President and General Manager of the firm's Consumer Business Organization. Memo will oversee the firm's product development, marketing, and engineering for its consumer products. Memo joins the firm from Gateway Computer, and has also served as President and COO of Alta Vista. Linksys is a unit of Cisco Systems.

Soapbox Mobile Appoints Former Microsoft VP as Co-Chairman
San Diego-based Soapbox Mobile, a provider of mobile marketing for major brands, said Thursday that it has appointed Rowland Hanson as co-chairman of the firm's board of directors. Zogenix Appoints VP
San Diego-based Zogenix, a pharmaceutical company that is developing treatments for CNS disorders and pain, said that it has appointed J.D. Haldeman as Vice President, Commercial Strategy & Corporate Communications. Aptuit Implements Clinicopia Software
Aptuit, a firm that provides development services to the pharmaceutical industry, announced this week that it has implemented the Clinicopia labeling solution at its facilities. The Clinicopia software is used to manage clinical trials. Aptuit is backed by private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe and maintains is Informatics branch in Agoura Hills, California.
